    Hmm DR help

Ok i'm gonna be getting Dr's for all 4 corners. I'm thinking a 17 inch wheel. Does a 16 inch clear the R/t brakes? Anyway what size tire should i be looking at since i'm at a 3.07 gear ratio. I have been thinking 255/40/17 which puts me at a 25" tire. Or a 255/55/17 which puts me at a 28" tire. What is the best size? Also what has been the best DR to go with? First time buying DR's so who has had experience with which and which ones do you like?

Ok i found a calculator online, a 25 inch tire will put me at redline in 3rd at about 105mph which is no good. A 28 inch tire will put me at the redline in 3rd at roughly 115mph, which is much better.

I would go with Hoosiers or M/T in 17 inch. Also, I dont think you need ALL four..

I may be way off base here, but I'm thinking with such little tire slip as you should have, I'd go with the shorter tire for a quicker launch.
That benefit should outweigh the negative 3rd gear shift point.
(I'm trying to prepare myself to the blasted for my ignorance now)

Wow i started looking at DR's and i got completely confused. Can someone help me out with a 25-28" tall DR that will fit on a 7 inch rim (probably a 255 series).

You guys, alot of us have been running the shorty's! 25.5 or so, 17's will work, Tirerack has a Borbett for like 125.00, if its on a budget. Most of the record runs have been on shorty's.

Well, here's a thought, if you have your stock 18" wheels, instead of drag radials just go with a fatter lower profile street tire, 255/45/18 or perhaps for the rear a 275/45/18.BTW what's your trap speed now?

Their awd system is quite different so i doubt they have the traction issues we have.

Ok here is the setup i think i'm gonna go with. I got the borbet wheels for $129 a piece at 18x7.5 (damn tire rack wont let me go to 17 inch for some reason) and then 265/35/18 BF goodrich g-force r1 (will that tire fit on that rim?). All mounted for about 1500. I'm gonna see if i can find something in 17 inch.

Road tires and track tires should be two different concepts for your car.

A 220 tread wear will provide pretty good traction, but low tread life on a AWD.
Race tires are probably down in the 50-80 road wear area, and wear really quick but provide tons more traction. For a AWD (wish I had one) I'd think that the F1 supercars with a 220 rating would give best of both worlds.

I'm going through the same thought process with my RWD, and figure I need a set of 4 wheels and tires for auto cross, and a set of DR and wheels for the 1/4, and a set of daily drivers.

With your AWD. I think you can find a tire that meets your needs for all uses. Probably between a 180 and 300 tread wear

well i'm gonna be getting new everyday tires, which are also my drag tires for now, i'll see how my traction issues are then and then if i need DR's still then we'll see.
