    HELP - Rotor "clicking"

    I put the R1concepts premium slotted and drilled rotors on my 05 Mag R/T with new brakes. All is well until I test the car and I'm getting a ligh "click" "click" "click" sound from my front right rim area. Its not a deep metal on metal sound but a light click. So I took everthing back off to make sure it was all put on right - put rims back on - then same thing! click click click....

    I called R1 and the guy said it was normal. He said to expect noises and maybe even smoke over the course of one gas tank full. Now I dont doubt his knowledge but im worried that maybe I just didnt convey my problem correctly.

    Does this sound right to anyone? Man I hope its just what he said but I cant figure out why I would be getting these clicking noises.

    Oh and one of my crappy locking lugs stripped. Any ideas on what to do! Damn this has been one shi@#y day!

    impact noises and smoke are normal? Does that include flames and explosions? ;-)

    The only clicking I have heard is in slow reverse with the wheel cranked over to one side hard. But only with a different set of wheels. That would have probably been fixed if I had used 3mm spacers with my front 255's like a lot of others do.

    If its normal, whats the cause of the noise? Something is hitting something else. If its known enough to be classed as nromal it should be known enough to spell out.

    Maybe enough stuff has been wacked to make a shiny spot identifying the impact point?

    Have you tried jacking up the wheel and manually turning it to see if you can hear anything and thus pinpoint it?

    Tried removing, inspecting and reseating the pads?

    Matt, yeah Ive tried all of the above. Well besides driving it enough to create shiny spots.

    When rotating the wheel by hand while on jack stands there is no clicking what so ever. This really sucks.....

    Well in fairness I can see where a little smoke early on should be normal. You are heating up the rotors for the first time and when they get hot any misc crap on the rotors -- even inside them where the vents are -- is gonna roast right up. But clicking is normal? Not seeing it.

    I had the same thing when I installed mine several months back, but I'd classify the clicking more as a "whishing" sound. The sound went away after a few days of driving; the smoke was gone after the first break-in drive (about 30-40 miles).

    If I had to guess (and I suppose I do) the sound comes from tiny imperfections in the machining of the slots and drilled holes. Driving and braking for a couple hundred miles wears away the small bits that weren't removed when the rotor was cut. If I recall, R1 uses Centric rotors as blanks and does the machining themselves on their CNC machine; that probably leaves a few imperfections.

    I hate to say it but positive feedback is good to hear and prefered since if my car goes down im in some trouble getting back and forth to work. I put about 40 miles on it between yesterday and today and nothing fell of, snapped or caused me not to have the ability to stop! A mechanic friend of mine told me something has to be wrong but said he hasnt dealt with slotted and drilled rotors before. This is one sucky feeling......... I have my fingers crossed!
