Good winter tires for the stock 18s...

I have a set of Charger SRT-8 rims on the magnum right now, but it's getting to be that time of year where I need to switch back to the oem 18s. Problem is, they need new rubber! Wondering what my best bet is on a solid set of tires for winter at a good price (this is the first time I am replacing since I bought Nov 07)! Any websites I could look at would be great, as well as any/all suggestions on size! Thanks!

    YOU GUYS ROCK!

Here's a little secret on winter driving a rwd LX: Put 100-150 lbs of sand bags in the trunk. I have a set of new Dunlop Wintersport M3's waiting to put on my car, but it went so darned good for the last 2 winters on the 4 season General Grabber UHP's, I never put them on. This winter the Generals will be worn out so I'll slap on the Dunlops. Blizzaks, get good ratings, but are fast wearing in my experience. Cheapo Firestone Winterforce seem to work well also. Pirelli Winter Carving are good but the Pirelli Ice and Snows were disapointing to me.

I use Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 in our harsh winters with no issues - I suspect they will last me quite some time and were very well priced! In previous winters with RWD vehicles of similar weight, I have used Blizzak and X-Ice tires and they were fine as well.

No need for sandbags in the trunk.

I have been running Bridgestone Blizzaks the past 2 winters with no problems. A set of those and stay off the throttle and you will be fine.

Lol, I guess I went a little overboard last winter then! I had three 70 lb sandbags in there last year... regardless, still need some new tires. Where are some good places to order the General grabbers or some other good websites to look at?
    Thanks for the help... again......

I know the blizzaks are great tires... but they're so darn expensive! I have been doing some searching... anyone put these on?

    http://www.treadepot.com/tire/19934

They are cooper tires, pretty darn good price. I'm not looking for extremely long wear/tread life, just something for good traction in the winter.

I had some coopers on my pt cruiser turbo and they were good all year round and wore just right (obviously these are way different than what I had on there though).

Good enough, perhaps. But not the best.
For starters, most police agencies have contracts through Goodyear. I don't know the political end of it, but I'm certain price, treadwear, and country of origin have lots to do with it.

Goodyear UltraGrips are a good snow tire. I am not going to dispute that one bit. However, Bridgestone Blizzaks are a better winter tire. They perform better on ice, and they also ride better when the roads are clear. The Goodyears tend to be noisy in comparison. In my experience, Blizzaks are good for three winters (four if you have your senior citizen card). Everything else being equal, you may get one more season out of the Goodyears.

Well.....the good years performed very well for Wendy and I and there is very little wear on the tire at this point. So we'll see.I had the blizzacks before and to be honest there wasn't much difference.....but then again I have driven RSA's through the snow with no issues....guess we'll just have to wait and see how they do.BTW.....is your opinion from personal experience or did you read it out of a book?

I got the blizzaks last year but only have the oem road and track tires to compare them 2. I was at a car show last thursday and the local cop at the show had on winterforce tires on his cruiser. With the miles those cruisiers put on in a given year I doubt they could catch a cold at that point with the life span and wear a winter tires goes threw in warm weather.

Personal experience. And I sell tires.
I could also tell you about Michelix X-Ice, Firestone Winterforce, Nokian Hakka RSI, and Kelly Wintermaks (all snow tires that I have run in the last 10 years on my personal vehicles), but I figured I would only elaborate on the Blizzaks since they trumped the rest.

The Goodyears are far from bad tires. That wasn't the messge I was trying to convey. I'm just one of those a55holes who doesn't slow down in the winter, so I do notice a difference between pretty good snow tires and great snow tires

Any opinion on these? It's the cheapest I've seen any legit winter tires for, since I have been looking almost nonstop for the past two days.

Firestone Winterforce is good for snow and slush. Treadwear is pretty good for a snow tire because they are not super soft. That is good and bad. Because they are not really soft, they are not the best on ice (still way better than all-season tires). I have alot of customers riding on these and they are happy with them. Only those who have run Blizzaks would be disappointed.
