Caveat emptor with American Racing Rims

Just in case anyone was considering buying rims from American Racing (now Wheels Pro) just hope you never have a warranty claim. I had a warranty claim on one of my Torque Thrust M rims and the finish was peeling off. I sent in pics and they said it was covered by warranty and I would get a new rim. That was back in the beginning of June 2008, and I still don't have the rim.

The first excuse I was given is that they didn't have any rims and had some in production so I needed to wait until they finished. Well then American Racing was sold to Wheels Pro and they were looking into it. Then I was suppose to get the rim in Jan, then Feb, now they are making the rims in mid March.... (you can see where this is going...)

So after almost 9 months of waiting and various excuses, I still don't have my replacement rim. You might want to consider this if you are looking to buy American Racing/Wheels Pro rims!

That's BS, and cause for concern since I just bought some anthracite 22's myself.

That's BS too, that they don't have any wheels and have to wait until they make them. I got mine in a few days. Discount Tire ordered them through Wheel Pro.

I'd be curious to see the pics of where it's peeling.

Keep an eye on the polished aluminum parts of the rim. It is almost as if they didn't prep it properly and the protective coating is peeling off. And it isn't stone chips, cause the other wheels are fine. It started doing it only after a few months of putting them on with less than 8,000 kms on them. And the rims don't see winter!

Well that sucks. I've got the same rim. So far, no problems. Guess I better knock on wood. Hope you get it worked out.

I guess that's what happens when they started making them in China...you know to save themselves money while still charging a premium for them.

I'll keep a close eye on mine.

Unfortunately I don't have the pics. When I get the rims back out in about a month I'll post some pics.

Yes, "American" Racing wheels are made in China now. I am assuming that Wheel Pros just bought out the name and are using them on their own quality of merchandise. I had nightmare issues with Wheel Pros just trying to get my wheels. They were quick to charge my credit card and then had every excuse in the book why I did not get my wheels. I finally had to dispute the charge with my credit card company and bought the same wheels through a national chain tire shop. I did not have to pay until they came in. Wheel Pros sent them the wrong wheels two times. All in all it was a 5 month affair.

I didn't get what I wanted with the wheels either. I bought two American Racing Razor's in a silver satin finish and ended up getting them in chrome instead. Since it was very close to the end of race season here, I decided to just keep them. Dude on the phone didn't sound very bright either lol. Oh well.
