Buying Winter Tires

Unfortunately i have to use my wagon this winter. Can anyone provide me with some tires sizes for winter rubber. preferably ones that can fit the stock sxt wheels. if not, what size steelies should i be lookin for?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tire Rack has Blizzak WS-60's for $101 and the Michelin LattitudeX's for $109. You will be surprised if you put them on all 4's. Suddenly you will be waving bye-bye at the Subarus and Jeeps that thought they didn't need snows.

Have a look at NOKIAN tires. I went up one size (235/18) on all four corners with their winter V rated model. Nokian said run them all year. They work fantastic in snow, and 10 times better than the Continentals in the summer.

I'm also looking for a set for my SRT8 Charger. I'm putting 18" rims on the car, but what tire package will yield the best balance of performance, brand availability, price, etc... I want to go with a 235/60/18 but I don't think it will fit. But a 235/55/18 is an odd size and very rare... And I feel 225 is too narrow for dry (when roads are clear) and 245 is too wide for snow...

Thoughts?

I've always heard that you should run the thinnest tire possible for the winter, to give more of a cutting effect than a plowing effect. But I don't see any sizes offered other than the 225-60-18....

Unless anyone has prior knowledge to share......

I think I've gathered that a 235/60/18 will fit and work as well. It's 1mm taller in teh rear, and 11mm taller in teh front. So, I'm pretty sure there's more than 5.5mm of clearance between the front tire and the suspension bolt thingy that hangs down.

I run 235/60/18 on my AWD and can confirm there are no clearance problems. I like this size for slightly increased ground clearance and sidewall for comfort on choppy ice.

Doesn't your SRT run 245/45/20 in the front? That is 28.7" dia. The 235/60 is 29.1" dia. That is only 0.2" closer to any part - there must a enough stock clearance to accomidate that small difference. Take a peak under your car or querry the SRT forum to double check.

Keep in mind that should result in your speedo indicating about 1 mph slower than actual.

I wouldn't go with 235/55/18, that is a 28.1" dia tire, you don't want to decrease your already low SRT ground clearance, do you?

Cool. Please give us a report or two on the LM25's during the snow season. I will probably need to replace my Pirelli Scorpions after this winter and was thinking of the LM25's because of the more aggressive tread.

will do. preliminary reports are that the lm25's kick arse. Amazing balance between performance on dry and cutting into snow.

I have a set of Blizzak DMZ3s on my '05 RT rwd, and they are FAR better than the Pirelli Ice&Snows I had on the car last winter. The DMZ3 is a SNOW tire, not an aggressive all season like the Ice&Snow. I have a feeling the Blizzak LM25 is a similar "performance winter" tire as the Pirelli Ice&Snow is. They were OK in the snow, but the DMZ3 Blizzaks are much better in more than an inch of fresh snow, and FAR better on any packed/ice conditions. I've driven in 6-8" of snow, and haven't had an issue.
