By the measurements, the 275/40/20 should be 28.6" tall and 305/35/20 should be 28.4" tall.

When I first got my Nitto's I kept them on the car for an extended period. I love them on the track. On the road in the rain they are better than an amp'd, red bull Mountain Dew cocktail--eyes wide open and a white fisted grip on the wheel (having empty lanes on either side would be a plus, too).

I have to disagree. I used to run them on my mid eleven second 98 Z28 M6. The car did not have traction control and I had no problems with them in heavy rain here in FL.

I would ususally get 6-9 months out of them depending in how many passes I made at the track. Now BFG DR's in the rain are a totally different animal.

according to the Nitto web site, the 305 needs a min rim with of 10in and recomends a 11-12 in. SRT8 Rims are 9.5 in with. Dose this mean we will need new rims???

Exactly. I run 315 Nitto DR's all year on my LS1 Trans Am. They do fine in the inclimate weather and very well at the track. The ET streets are better at the track, but terrible as a daily driver.

If you go with the 275 you won't need a new rim.
