Coles notes version:
Man dates woman for about a year, then invites her to live with him. She moves in with her mom and two kids. After 10 months things are not working out so he breaks up with her and asks her to move back out. She refuses. Court decides HE has to move out. Of his own home! WTF?

While she was living in his place she racked up $3,500 in debt on their joint credit card and although the court has ordered her out of the house she has 2 weeks to do so, and there is no guarantee it won't be looted and/or trashed and he is forbidden from going anywhere near his own home until she's out.

Wow. Just wow.

After 2 divorces I've already found out first hand that it doesn't pay to be a white male in this country, but this story takes the cake. Someone needs to buy this guy a beer, or 14.

He's nice enough to take in his girlfriend's mother and to children, presumably at no charge, while she's racking up debt in his name on a credit card... and somehow he deserves to get screwed for it? Granted, he's incredibly stupid for dating a freeloader, but love is blind (and sometimes stumbling blind drunk).

I think this story is appalling. She wasn't on the lease, she's gotta go, so that first ruling is INSANE. Now, to keep him out of his own home until they leave so he can't even watch what they're stealing (let's face it, that's all they've been doing the whole time anyway, so why trust them?), that's just plain ridiculous.

I'm all for helping friends and family. But this woman was not yet his family. He certainly put himself in a bad position, but for the courts to side w/ her/them... Gah. Glad our courts aren't the only ones that make mind numbingly assanine decisions!

Ok, I'm a woman, and I have to say that that blows hard. Everyone has to pay, in one way or another, for their bad judgement, but really, this seems pretty harsh. I hope the courts will rule in his favor, because no one deserves to be treated that badly.

He should of got her and kids and mom out to go to the store or dinner or movies somehow and had friend help pack their **** and put it in the driveway and change the damn locks. When she gets home she is locked out and if she calls cops just say she doesn't live here. Make her show proof she lives there , no lease , no proof. Then buy yourself a beer and have a nice day.

If she received mail there, she lives there, it gets complicated.

Here is the point:

I live with Foxxxy. It's her house. She bought it right after we met. I moved in a year later, and I have lived with her for 2 and a half years now. Unlike the couple in the story, under Canadian Common Law, we are considered spouses. Which means I am technically entitled to half the house if we split up. Again, unlike the couple in the story, where the woman had no entitlement under common law.

And I can GUARANTEE you, that if she wanted me out. I would be OUT. No questions asked. Because I know one call to the cops and they would not only remove me from the house, they'd throw my arse in jail. And no judge in the free world would tell her she had to leave and allow me to stay in the house.

Reverse the male and female in the story I posted and ask yourself if it would ever happen.

Without question the answer is NO.

I have to say that though this story sucks for that dude, my sister at the moment is going through something that shocks the hell out of me.

She met a guy a year and a half ago .. had a child moved into a house then they decided to split because of a drug probelm he has. They both wanted to have 50/50 custody of the child and both wanted the house. So the court ruled that they share...the house is being rented. My sister has to live in the house for 2 weeks then moves out to my mothers for 2 weeks then moves in for two weeks. He has had people over who has stolen her stuff when she is not there and she has called cops they wont do anything because legally they both own it. This has been going for months now .. I cant do anything police has told me and my brothers that if we get involved my sister will lose the privlages of having her son. Our hands are tied...so in this case they have really bent over for this guy.

Crazy when it comes to custody of children and property...

In our case, it was a "cohab" agreement. If living together didn't work out, we would each get back what we put into it, and simply divided the rest. That was almost twelve years ago, now married for over eight years. Seems to have worked out quite well I have to say!
