    Willow Springs Track Day

Just a heads up for anyone interested in running Willows Big Track all day. Its a blast and you'll get plenty of laps in for sure. Tim does a great job on track days and its always a fun time. Usually we go to the Bar/ Resturaunt afterwards for Food/Beer. Not sure I can make it but its open to all.

Sounds like lots of fun .... the "Big" Track at Willow Springs is fun and very fast. My problem I am running NASA School Event at Laguna Seca the following week. Plus it is a long haul from Chico,CA.

Lets hope by late September the heat isn't too bad there for you guys.

Hmm, I'm coming down for the Cruisin' for a Cure thing that Saturday anyway. May have to make a four/five day weekend out of it.

Just make sure you realize it is not an LX only event.... They open it up to all car makes/models. While that is still a blast, it's just not the same as running on an LX only track day with your brethren (at least for me).

Actually it's even MORE fun! The look on the faces of the non-LX drivers as you stomp them is PRICELESS!

Start of the day, they look down their noses at you and your grocery-getter. End of the day, they're grovelling at your feet, still trying to get their head around the fact that racer boy and his tricked out track ricer or Mustang got thoroughly educated by daddy in his wagon. Too much fun.

This man speachish the truth. For anyone that has never attended any type of track event. It always the same story.

Chad the corvete driver: "uuuuum ya, your gonna run those things???"

    Biff the Porsche ferry: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!"

And in the end when the day is done and the dust has settled!!.

One of the best things I have ever heard and this would be a absolutely true story.

We at Cali the day after the spring feast. When we pulled into the padocs (how ya spell that?). The Porsche boys were laughing at our rides, ya.....for real.

So anyhow the first group goes out and I'm running the post position and on lap five I run a pretty decent lap and on the folowing lap, I torche the brakes to the point it was time to bail off the track before I take someone out.

So as I'm pulling off the track by the poduim area. A guy comes running out to me and stops me. Says hey "you just ran a 1:23". I'm like OK, WTF does that mean, never been on this track before. Turns out he was one of the Porsche club promoters and says "most of my boys can't run a 1:23".

After the first run was done and the lap times were posted, we got just a tad more respect.

That right there is worth the price of admission.

Oh man, you gotta do one of these. It's absolutely addicting. The best part is no one wants to bang fenders so everyone is cool with each other. There are passing rules and the promoters always do a great job of training everyone and explaining how to drive the course. They will for the first timers take you out (in your ride) and show you what to expect and how to handle the course. They will then have you drive and coach you until they feel you both feel safe about your skill level.

After that, there is no worring about getting busted by the cops. There are no worries about someone running a red light, your not gonna round a blind corner and find grandma parked there in her wheel chair and play deathwish 2010.

Bud, it's all good. Just you and your ride. There has not been one person that can walk away from one of these events saying that they are not a better driver because of it.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Most of what you'll sign off on are track liability disclaimers. You crash, you eat it.
