    Northern California Spring Fest Convoy

NOTICE: THIS IS NOT A CLUB CONVOY. IF YOU ARE PART OF A CLUB AND WISH TO CONVOY WITH THAT CLUB PLEASE SEE THEIR FORUM FOR CONVOY INFORMATION. THIS THREAD IS IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH ANY NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CLUB AND DOES NOT REPRESENT ANY NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CLUB.

This will be a small to mid-sized convoy to Irvine on Friday, March 14th. Open to all, regardless of club affiliation.

The plan is to roll down that morning, and get into Irvine no later than mid-afternoon.

I'm not planning on setting any land speed records, gotta baby and a husband to think about. So if you're planning on breaking the sound barrier, you'll probably want to roll with someone else.

I've found that rolling in a smallish group is easier than driving alone and if possible we can try hooking up with other convoys on the way down.

    REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Go to this thread to sign up for the event and to get in on the group rate at the Doubletree.
*** Official 2008 Third Annual Spring Festival of LXs Registration ***

    Convoy Details:

Last year we rolled out on I-5 around 6-7 am and got to the hotel around 1 or 1:30. The hotel was still cleaning rooms and not many of us were able to check in. Because of the check-in timing, I think we can plan to leave around the same time, especially since we won't be stopping as much.

    Radio Frequencies:

    7 Channel 0
    9 Channel 0
    Other options as needed

    In case of traffic:

Once we're closer to L.A., traffic will be a massive factor. For this reason, it may not be conducive to all 30+ cars trying to stay together. Plan to stay with 3-5 other cars (See Squadron Section below!) once we hit the grape vine. We all have the same route and the same destination and we can gather together prior to rolling into the hotel for the final convoy showing.

If we happen to get separated between stops on the way down, continue on to the next stop and wait or catch up with the convoy as appropriate.
There's no reason to panic or get upset if we get separated or we have to make changes, my whole goal with this is to keep it smooth and fun for all involved.

    Rules of the road:

We're all here to have a good time, and so we want to avoid irritating other drivers or causing safety problems for each other. As such, try to avoid risky or dangerous maneuvers and be respectful of others. We're all friends, let's stay that way.

    Merging/Changing Lanes:

When we need to move over or change lanes, the last car or the first car will start signalling, so keep an eye on the car in front of you and behind you and if they signal to move over, follow suit so the other cars can know what's going on. Merge over as soon as its safe.

    Squadrons!!!

Since we have SO many cars in this convoy, it makes sense to be divided up into squadrons. Basically these are groups of 4-6 cars who stick together, even if you can't stay with the entire convoy or we get split up in traffic. So far there are four volunteer squadron leaders, ChargerGirl (ME), magnumdude, SMosher, and SRT-4D^2.

    • All 300s will follow SMosher (Steel Blue 300)
    • All Magnums will follow magnumdude (Midnight Blue Magnum)
    • All RED Chargers will follow SRT-4D^2 (Inferno Red Charger SRT)
    • All OTHER Chargers will follow ChargerGirl (Black Charger SRT)
The concept is that you stick together as a group for safety, and stop together. All the squad leaders will have the specifics for the convoy and will be in charge of their groups (no power trips please) and will contact me or the other leaders if they run into trouble.

    Visual Identification:

We're using White Window/Glass Chalk to put your convoy # (the one next to your name in the list below) on your rear windshield. Squad leaders (ChargerGirl, magnumdude, SMosher, and SRT-4D^2) will have a circled SL in their rear window as well.

    Emergency Communication:

I will be giving out my cell number in case anyone gets left behind or needs to stop. Please only use this in an emergency and try to stick to using the radios.

    Headlights:

One easy way for us to know who's who will be to have your headlights or daytime running lights on. This is to help avoid confusion with other non-affiliated LXes.

    Suggestions:

If there's anything I missed, just let me know. I've done this a few times, but sometimes I miss stuff, so speak up!

    Things to bring:

    • Radios (walkie talkies that have a good 10-15 mile range)
    • Gas money
    • Cameras (video for the trip and digital for all the cars at the show)
    • Folding Chairs
    • Pop-up tent or sunscreen or both
    • Car detailing stuff
    • Drinks and snacks for the trip
    • Good playlist
    • Helmets if you're doing the track event on Sunday
    • Anything else you can think of...
    The Route:

Here is a link to the Google Maps rendition of our route, print this out and use as a reference.
