    Commute Murrieta - Irvine

    Hi Guys,

We are currently living in the OC, but thinking about moving a bit inland later tis year. I was wondering if anybody on this forum lives in the Lake Elsinor/Temecula area and commuting to the OC. My job is in Irvine, close the John Wayne airport.

How bad is the commute really and any other reasons why to move/not move to that area?

    Appreciate any input.

    Thanks!

Don't do it! That commutte on the 91 will kill you. 1.5-2 hours each way!
Is that really worth paying less for a home?
I say buy something smaller in the OC.
Who wants to spend 3 hours a day on the freeway stuck in traffic?
    Just my thoughts.

It depend on when you commute. I try to leave the house around 6am and I get into Orange near The Pond, usually in a hour to hour 15 minutes. The worst of the traffic is in Corona, it usually clears up at about Green River. The 241 will get you to Irvine real quick, but it will cost you.
Coming home is a different matter. If you are using the 241 between 5 and 6 it will be stopped from the 91 to the 15 and the 15 south for about 8 miles before it opens up.

I've been doing the commute for over 20 years, it's they only way I could afford to have a decent house with a lot size large enough for the herd of animals we have.

You should spend the night out here and commute in as a test, if it works for you great if not, oh well.
    Later,

I don't do that commute, but after last weekend and mind you this was a Saturday at Noon.

We left the house in Garden Grove, took 22 east to 55 north to 91 nightmare. I took us an hour and a half to get from 55/91 to our destination at Tom's Farms just so the wife could look at furniture. I mean even the 15 south was bumper to bumper.

There's no way I would submit what sanity I have left to that !!!

    I'm Staying put !!!

Thanks guys; your comments are very much appreciated! I guess the best way to figure it out is indeed to make the drive and see how it feels to me; hey at least I have a good, comfy car if I decided to do it.

    Thanks again!

If your hours and location are somewhat regular I'd suggest using Metrolink. I've been riding it for about 4 yrs to Santa Ana, got a beater car in S/A. Only 30 min from Corona station and has kept me sane. Alot of people from the IE are using it now with alot of scheduled trains. Good luck on your decision.

I am soooo glad I do not live on So Cal anymore. I grew up in Huntinton Beach and was lucky to live in HB and work in Newport Beach right off the 55. Now I live in Sacramento near Hwy 50 and drive a 28 mile round trip each day to work in Folsom that only takes me 30-45 minutes total. I miss the beach cities, but not the traffic!!!

Guy at work drives from Irvine to Ontario and it takes him 40 min. would be an easier drive if you simply avoid the 91 from any direction you travel.

Hi, One of the worst commutes in SoCal IMHO, and going to get worse. Also, depending upon where you live in OC, you might find that it is quite a bit hotter in the Summer than you are used to. Could result in higher energy bills. Plus side is a lot more house andland for the money and more open space and less traffic (for now) compared to OC. Phil

Taking the 91 fastrack(which kick ass) I can get from Tustin/Placentia/Fullerton to my house in Corona(15/91 split) in about 30 minutes. If you are going to be down the 15 south, you can always jump off at Green River/91 and take side streets back to the 15/Ontario. I'd say about an hour. You would be amazed at how much the Fastrack helps. But if you sit in the 91 traffic all the way from OC to the 15 yeah it could take 2 hours.

IceMag - That would definitely be a drive for you, but as a few have mentioned, you get ALOT more for your money out this way. We used to live in Laguna Niguel commuting to Oceanside. Now, we are up in the hills above Temecula. I miss the drive since now we don't go very far. I don't think you will have a problem finding something. Maybe we will see you and others around.

I know going down the 371 to the 79 S. I see a TON of Chrysler cars. Can't wait to meet up with some of you in the future.

im going to disagree about the fast track. yea its nice while your on it. but it will stop and youll still be in traffic. i lived in cerritos lakewood area, and moved to corona and would go back and forth all the time. but yea i do agree with everyone about the time. there is plenty of times after the morning rush that you can fly down the 91 with out a problem. same with afternoon rush...but sometimes the afternoon rush lasts foreverrrrr! like 3-8 forever! hahah so yea if your scheduale permits go for it. houses sure are cheap as hell riverside and on! when corona started building my parents bought a house for 219, couple years later its up to half a mil. they sold took the money and went to florida and retired. house paid off. real good investment. good luck whatever you do!

    Commute IE to Irvine

    [
I make the commute a little different, I go the 60 freeway to the 57 and go around the 91 or I go the toll road. Are you thinking of Buying a home out there? Let me know, I can help you find a great deal!!
