    Talking Woodburn TnT 04/04/09

Dutchgirl and I are going to Weedburn tomorrow to make some shakedown passes in the Magnum. Was going to take the SRT 4 too but decided that I'm in the danger zone until I get the BS chain cut, so only one car tomorrow. Post up if you'll be there! Spock sez, BE THERE!

Dang, I made plans to visit family in Seattle area that day. I'd have loved to bring the Chally out for some "learning" of it as it were. The Van is pretty dialed in and hasn't seen a change since last year at the Mopar Nats. Plus I'd have to fill the bottles :D

The 2.4L is on the large side for a 4 cyl., over 2L fours have a tendency to shake at idle (remember the 2.2L s?) so Mopar to reduce NVH (and sell more cars) installed a balance shaft assy. that runs at twice crank speed and produces harmonics that mask the rotating assy.'s. This is great until you cross the 400 whp level when they have a tendency to break the chain/guides (gears and guides made of plastic). A broken chain on one car on Utube wiped out the crank trigger and 2 pistons. While I'll have to deal w/more NVH, cutting the chain is worth an extra 10 HP. Most SRT4 drivers perform this mod long before they reach my power level.

Interesting, I have a Mitsubishi Expo wagon in the family that has the 2.4l, we actually had problems with the timing belt tensioner going out and sounding like rod knock. I also remember having to mess with a balance shaft belt or chain.... can't really remember. Love those engines though. it's smart of you not to chance it for sure!

It looks like the weather will be decent, so I might be out around noon.
It looks like 2012 will be very good indeed.
Unless the Mayans are right, then, well, never mind.
