    Too Many Choices

Ok, definately going to buy new tires this week. Problem is that I've read too many threads and I am more confused then I was to begin with, but that's nothing new for me. I need everyone's help to decide on what tires to buy....so vote.

Didn't we just have this "am I overthinking" it conversation last Sunday Unfortunately I don't know squat about tires so I can't add to your confusion.

If you're going to race them, then use the drag radials.

    Dave,

Are you talking daily driver/track tires or only getting deep into the 12's or high 11's tires?
It looks like 2012 will be very good indeed.

The need is for both....getting the drag times down and daily driving....real question is whether any tire can do both? Or do I have to buy daily drivers and a set of rear drag radials.....and rims to boot....The nitto nt05 almost look like drag radials....

I think you have a winner.

But you might go with good daily driver tires and some DR's with rims (maybe 18's or even 17's). At least that's info I've skimmed from reading the forum for a few years. It's only money!!!

i looked up info on all the tires you mentioned dave. i would go for the nitto nto5s from what i read, and if you got the extra moolah, get the nitto drags with some wheels for the backs like scott recommened for the drags if you wanna hook up. cause from looking at the toyos i think they would not be up to par with all that engine work you've done to it, but that just depends on how much you like to get on it, just my .02 but what do i know im just a kid, lol.

    Dave,
It is really a catch 22, a sticky tire wears quickly and grips well while a harder compound lasts longer and has less grip. To see which category a tire fits in look at the UTQG rating on the sidewall. Low number like 100 (DR) wears fast while a high number like 440 will last (but not hook well). Personally I would not try to drive on a DR everyday as rain traction is pretty iffy. Unfortunately you can't have it both ways, no tire no matter how expensive will do both well. I would suggest spending time at the Tire Rack website and looking at the different categories listed. My last set of street tires were from the 'competion' section had a UTQG rating of 200 ( better than my Nitto DR's that are 100), hooked really well but by 10K they were getting thin and by 15K they were toast. So if you can afford new tires every 10-12K that is a way to go. For me I need a little more life from my tires so I'm going w/a set of Sumitomo HTR Z III this time...still sticky (read the reviews on tire rack) but w/a wear rating of 300 I hope they will last more than one season. If you are going to get some DR's for the track (not for daily use) I'd consider M/T's as they are supposed to hook better than the Nitto's. Good luck as you say there are lots of choices but no tire will do everything.

Well, I'd go with a set of Toyo Proxes 4 for the street. I have a set and really like them. But, I'd go with a set of DR's and wheels for the track. A DOT legal DR would allow you to swap them out at home, drive to the track and drive home. Then, swap back to the street tires.

I have the nitto nt555r drag radials in 20" on separate rims for the track.
I love them! Can put them on and drive to the track, they are street legal.
    Real good traction.
Look at discountire.com Sometimes they are on sale.

Dave with the power you have nittos most likely will not hold, they barely hold my stock srt. M/T are you better bet for play tires, but won't be nice for driving to work. At your power level buying two set may be more cost affective. Good luck
