Mini Intake MFO for the Chally

Well, I sold off my wheels and tires and went by baxter's today to see about getting an intake (well I called first...) and was talking to one of the guys at the Beaverton store. He suggested I test the 2 different intakes I had asked about (K&N and AFE) and bring back the one that made less power. I thought about it and decided to not only test those but the Airaid as well as they had all 3 in the warehouse. So Thursday, time permitting, I should be doing an air intake face off with my SRT Challenger and those 3 intakes.

I will of course document dyno results and testing with the Chally stock, then with each intake giving a good cool down between each set of tests. Not quite as scientific as the MFO that the forum puts together but I hope it will be informative for some . Anyone wanna help out? Hank said he might be able to make it later on in the morning, but any are welcome to come give a hand. We'll be in Oregon City off of Fir street and Beavercreek road at Bel-Air Machine's Dyno, just a bit south off of Beavercreek road on Fir on the right hand side. Drop a line to see if we're there first tho . Peace out!

I know you plan on doing this today, but in a week or so, I'll have a shiney new AEFIS that could be tested. :P

    Currently:
MBRP Cat-Back, Predator. Hoping I will get my AEFIS, or atleast some of my money back now

    Future:
Go to save up and work on making the fastest N/A engine out there. Everyone needs goals, no?

    PM Sent.

    What's AEFIS? lol

I know the next most popular intake is the Mopar CAI, so maybe if someone had one they wanted to bring? Short notice and all, I don't expect it tho

The AE Carbon intake. Looked impressive at the last MFO. Only downside is that only the stage 1 is available for the Chally, stage 2 is in the works (though already out for charger/magnum/300)

Ok, sorry for not posting sooner, but here are the results:

We documented temperatures for coolant, oil and air intake for each run to see if there was a correlation, which there was. It seems that having the engine closer to 180 makes more power in general and over 205 there is a definite drop off, appearing sort of like retarding the timing or fuel. Another thing we noticed was that we base-lined the car on this day and found that most of the horsepower I had gained with the exhaust work seemed to have vanished. We were back to 359 hp SAE corrected vs. 353 hp SAE corrected stock. The reason I show SAE is that comparing different days, this should be a little closer for changes vs. uncorrected. The SAE corrected 380 whp/wtq from the exhaust pulls is 366/374. So, using this, we lost 7 whp over the course of the week since the last test. Not sure if this is due to the EMS trying to "adjust" or what exactly but regardless, we're down on power. It also appears we had some really good air on the day we tested the exhaust. So, here's the rest of the results from the Intake mini MFO, trying to post the runs that didn't "dip" towards the top end, what I've been thinking is knock retard due to a noisy or lean condition in the engine, most noticable at around 203 deg or higher.

Run 02 was the highest "bone stock" run on this car.
Run 12 was the highest "headers and exhaust" run on this car.
Run 16 was the smoothest "headers and exhaust" run on this car on MFO day.
Run 18 was the smoothest "+K&N" run on this car on MFO day, showing a gain of 6 hp and 5 ft-lbs.
Run 21 was the smoothest "+Airaid" run on this car on MFO day, showing a gain of 7 hp and 5 ft-lbs.
Run 26 was the smoothest "+AFE Stage 2" run on this car on MFO day, showing a gain of 9 hp and 5 ft-lbs.
Run 29 was the smoothest "+Airaid no Filter installed" run on this car on MFO day, showing a gain of 9 hp and 7 ft-lbs.
Run 31 was the smoothest "+Airaid +Preadator 91 octane tune" run on this car on MFO day, showing a gain of 9 hp and 8 ft-lbs.

All in all, uncorrected she is at 378 hp and 381 ft-lbs at the wheels, which is not bad, but still not sure where the gains for the exhaust went. Also the AF ratios were kind of troubling at first, but found that by putting the sensor in the collector it worked much better than at the exhaust pipe exit. Given the good AF ratios, we were not really suprised that we saw no real gain with the Predator, though were hoping for a 10 hp at least increase. As for Intake to intake, I believe the results are negligible, and the AFE's biggest gain was similar to having no filter on the Airaid, or basically, a filter that doesn't filter much besides small children and low flying birds. K&N and Airaid have the best filter technology, and the build quality of the Airaid was the best overall so I went with that for my choice after seeing and installing all 3. Hope this information helps some out there

It looks like 2012 will be very good indeed.
Unless the Mayans are right, then, well, never mind.
