Just wondered how many people are on this side of the water. We should do a GTG at the A&W in Port Orchard.

Lord, grant me the serenity to change the things I can, the peace to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to carefully hide the bodies of the one's who pissed me off so as they cannot be found.............
Man count me in, I live like 5-10 mins max from A&W in PO. So glad it didn't get closed down, its like an icon and part of PO's history.
yeah it was great to see the doors stay open.
how about Sunday the 8th? also everyone is welcome, not just people from this side of the water.
i'm very much down for that, sunday the 8th. pretty much any weekend works for me, most of the time.
of course the group has a GTG at XXX rootbeer the same day, maybe we could do a convoy over
to that
id be down for that too, i get paid that weekend so even better.![]()
I'm taking the 11:30 ferry from bremerton if anyone wants to convoy over.

I've got some fond memories of Bremerton. I was stationed there for a year and a half back in 1983 while I was in the Navy. One day I was driving past the airport and heard an injected car revving up. That was so out of place that I stopped into the airport to find out why I was hearing a race car at an airport. They told me that there was a dragstrip on the old runway on the other side of the current airport. So I searched out the road going to the back of the airport one day to see what was going on. When I got there all I saw was the old runway and an ultralight airplane being assembled by a man and woman. He was at the fuselage attaching a wing and the woman was holding the end of the wing in the air. All I heard was some cussing and the occasional command to the woman to hold the wingtip higher or lower. I knew that an interruption was not going to be welcomed so I just waited until a break in the action to ask about any drag racing going on there. After about 15 minutes there was a pause in the action and I got to ask them about racing. It was not a very pleasant conversation. I did get the information that they raced there on Sundays, I think it was. While I was sitting in the car thinking about getting out there on Sunday I saw a truck with a camper shell pull on to the the runway and park at the end of the runway. I started to wonder if maybe he was going to fly a radio controlled plane. That was on my mind since before I joined the Navy I had been involved with my brother while he was getting into the hobby. And what do you know, he got his plane out and started setting it up. I had to go talk to him. During our conversation I told him about my brother and my involvement in the hobby. That included the fact that my brother was a rotten pilot and had crashed and destroyed every plane he would build on the first flight. Our agreement was that if he ever had a plane that survived for a second flight that I would be the pilot. Well about the fourth or fifth plane it happened, he crashed but didn't destroy the plane and I got my chance to fly. And it went beautifully. I took off, ran the plane out of fuel, and landed it. I was quite impressed with myself. The poor guy at the airport was also impressed and made the mistake of handing me the transmitter while his plane was in the air. The big difference was my brother's plane had elevator and rudder controls and his plane had ailerons on it. For those that don't know, ailerons enable a plane to roll about its axis and turn upside down, a very dangerous situation for a rookie pilot like me. I promptly had the plane upside down and out of control, headed for the ground. I did have enough skill to know how to get the plane righted again and going up before disaster and handed him back the transmitter. I know he almost had a heart attack. One other thing happened while I was at the field. A large helicopter flew over the trees lining the field just above treetop level and flew directly over head, almost giving me a heart attack.
Well to wrap this up I did return with my AMC Gremlin on Sunday and made a few passes down the track. I was quite impressed with the cars that did show up. Especially one brand new Grand Prix that the owner had gutted and turned into quite a nice race car.
And if you made it this far I have a question. Is that track still there?
Yeah the track is still there and very popular during drag race season. I spend as much time as I can there on the weekends during the season.![]()
I will try to make it.

Oh man, I got to work that Sunday. I would love to join and meet with you all. NEXT time for sure.
Most of us on the other side of the pond have commited to XXX that day. But I think that would be a fun day trip, for many of us to come over there some time. We've talked about it in the past, but it hasn't really happened.
And yes, many of us have raced at the track - fun times for sure. Can't wait for Spring!
