How much trouble am I in?

We went to the Oklahoma Aquarium on Saturday and took the Cherokee Turnpike to get there.

We found out that the toll booths are not manned by anyone and they are equiped with bill changers if you need change.

That is all well and fine but if the bill changer spits out your bill, you have no choice but to "run the toll", which happened to me.

I pulled over expecting someone to come out of the building next door. I waited about 3 minutes and no one came out, so I left.

Now I am wondering if I am going to recieve a fine in the mail.

The Cherokee Turnpike is on land owned by the Cherokee Nation so any fine would be coming from that tribe, not the state of Oklahoma.

Has anyone else had an issue like this and what happened, if anything?

The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.

I know on the IL tollroads they don't bother trying to collect until you have five violations... but they charge $20 each, so all of a sudden you get a $100 fine in the mail. I can't imagine they're going to come after you.

You'll never see 'em comin'! I saw Dancing with Wolves... LOL

Did you see cameras, etc., at the toll booth?

I've driven that stretch a couple of times over the past few years and didn't remember that the booths are unmanned... er, unwarriored...

I don't have any hair left so a scalp is all they'll get!

I called them and I have to send a check for 75 cents. I don't know what the fine is but it seems like and awful amount of work to go through for less than a dollar.

The definatly took a picture because on my check I have to write the date I was there, which toll way I was on and my license plate number.

Next time I go maybe I'll just cover my plate!

WOW -- you're probably one of the few being responsible about this -- they've got to be going crazy cashing $.75 checks!
    (I guess that's the 21st century WAMPUM -- a $.75 check )

I know that in Houston when the toll road is a ghost town (after rush hour at night until 6 AM),
the small exit booths are unmanned and the gates are up -- essentially if they don't man it it's free.

But, if you're like me and have E-Z Tags on all your vehicles, they get me 24 x 7.

I moved out to Ark from Cali and I had a similar experience with the same toll road......I didnt see the dollar slot at all.......resorted to change and used every dime i had and when i threw my last dime there was no green light so I ran it......I am sure whatever they want to do it will catch up eventually....I will let you know if anything comes of my short changing the toll booth

I raced motorcycles in the early '70s and about 3am I was coming home, made a wrong turn and ended up at a toll station somewhere. I didn't have enough change so I threw in what I had and hauled ass. Never heard a thing from them.

I've had the same thing happen. Asked at the next manned toll booth they said I could call "this number" and turn myself in, or wait to see if I got a ticket. 5 years later and still no ticket.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

You and me both, I get an average toll bill of $50 /month running around the northeast population coridore. With all the tax on fuel and income, you would think that a properly managed system (LOL, I said properly managed LOL) would have bundles to spare!

    I would send 8 checks... 10 cents a piece, and 1 for a nickle...

Or just send them a roll of pennies and a quarter...
