A question for all my Texas LX brothers.

    Hey guys,
I'm from New York. My job is sending me to school for 2 weeks in Texas. I'll be staying in Webster which is just outside of houston. My question is since I want to make the most of my trip, i'm looking for suggestions of places and things I should see. I'll be arriving Sunday the 9th, and i'll be there until Friday the 21st. If there are any meetings planned I would like to try to tag along and check out some beautiful mopars. Thanks in advance.

    Well, welcome to Houston --
you'll be close to NASA, so be sure to do the NASA tour.
Galveston is right down the road -- the "strand" is a neat street,
and Moody Gardens is a good place to go too.
Near NASA is the Kema restaurant area on the bay -- good food and neat places.
You can take in an Astros game in downtown Houston (if they're in town).

Houston's a sprawling city -- you can find most anything here (including Hot and Humid).

    Have fun!

thanks BoMM! At least I have some ideas for places to take some great photos and just see some cool stuff. I didn't even think about touring Nasa, I didn't know they did that. That's a must for me.

Well i'm loving here. But what is with everyones tempers. Not one person gave me the finger since I arrived.Where in austin should i see. As it is i am planning to rent a car and drive up to north richland hills to see a friend.Something that amazes me is how huge the walmarts and targets are around here, twice as big as in new york, and they sell beer. One cool place i've been too is the texas roadhouse where you get to pick your steak and throw peanuts on the floor. Yeah, the little things amuse me.

From a native NY-er, I can relate. I was so amused, I stayed (and 27 years later, this is HOME) BTW, you're in the 4th largest city in the U.S. -- most non-Texans don't realize that -- Houston is HUGE. When you drive to Richardson and if you take I-45, watch your speed when you get near Dallas (Ennis in particular) -- speed limit drops to 60 and the LEOs are voracious.

Sounds like you're having fun -- keep it up!

We don't flip people off down here- we just shoot the ones that really annoy us!

Just a word of advice- while driving around here, don't go honking your horn at any one you don't know. I understand that you New Yorkers like to use your horns as a method of communication, but Texans are generally offended by that behavior. If you find it hard to restrain yourself, just try to remember what I said in the first line!

It depends on how much time you have. As far as peanuts on the floor, Round Rock (25 miles north of Austin on IH35) has a seafood place called Castaways that does this.
