Bad ball check valve-$2k to replace tank and hoses????

Did not see another thread on this so putting it out there.

We had a bad/strong smell of gas in car and garage after filling tank. Happened repeatedly, getting worse. Several NTSB postings on the issue. Similar findings of a crack in the tank/seal. Dealer says $2k to replace tank, hoses and charcoal filter because it is a ball valve not working??. (Guess we can't go Lucky Strike) Anyway, FCA says not a recall issue and it is not under warranty. Thoughts? Despite owning two Chargers, I think I am ready to go to Honda or something that just works. Spent $2k last year to replace rack and pinion at 70k miles and at 83k, replacing the fuel system? ?????
