Is buying a air intake worth it?

It all depends on the car. Some factory intakes are more restricted than others.

On hemi engines, throttle response and noise go up a little.

The question is, are you going to tune for it to take advantage of any increased air flow, or just bolt it in and be done with it.

If your not going to adjust your tune then its not going to help much performance wise. If you don't have any other supporting mods then it will mostly be just for sound and underhood eye candy.

In my opinion, cold air intakes are gonna help a little bit, noise changes for sure, it's nice. But I've NEVER heard of anyone tuning their car for a cold air intake. It will not improve anything at all with a tune. If you have intake, cam headers and exhaust, yeah you'll obviously want to do a tune. But not for just a cold air intake, either way , I'd look at a tuner like the diablo and run the 93 tune. That plus the intake will make a nice difference.

Im not saying go get it tuned just for that. Its a supporting mod. just putting it in the car isnt goimg to do much by its self either. But there is a reason why diablo has a separate canned Cai tune. More air flow means a leaner mix so why not take advantage of that regardless of how little it is. If you have a tuner and spend money on an intake you may as well get your moneys worth out of it.

I wouldn't put all my money on the flow characteristics(although not ignored), with a speed density system (MAP) I believe IAT's may be the more relevant variable. The lmi works pretty well as does the hell at box suggested above, and some guys have had luck with a generic version of that using an airaid kit.
