Chicago, Feb 6, 2008 - The return of the iconic Dodge Challenger brings what pony car fanatics crave: ground shaking performance, unmistakable design cues reminiscent of the original Challenger, world-class ride and handling characteristics and benchmark braking. On top of that it features a wide variety of modern amenities and technology designed to delight a new generation of driving enthusiasts.

“The all-new Dodge Challenger SRT8 is engineered to give customers everything they want in a modern muscle machine,” said Mike Accavitti, Director – Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing, Chrysler LLC. “The new version of Dodge’s American classic boasts tire-smoking performance and head-turning design while offering a wide array of state-of-the-art technology, such as GPS navigation, ‘Keyless Go’ entry, a MyGIG™ infotainment system and UConnect hands-free communication.”

Developed by Chrysler’s in-house performance engineering organization, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 was engineered with a focus on the five pillars of every SRT vehicle: bold exterior design that resonates with the brand image, a race-inspired interior, world-class ride and handling across a dynamic range, a standout powertrain and benchmark braking.

Dodge will offer the limited-edition 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 in three colors: HEMI® Orange, Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat. Each two-door, rear-wheel-drive coupe will be produced with a numbered dash plaque, carbon fiberlike hood stripes and will be powered by SRT’s 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine that boasts 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

With a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $37,995 (including $675 destination), the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 arrives in Dodge showrooms this spring.

The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 vehicles will be manufactured at Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario, Canada assembly plant.

Performance targets for the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 include a 0–60 mph time in the low 5-second range, 0–100–0 mph in less than 17 seconds, a ¼-mile elapsed time of less than 14 seconds, 60–0 mph braking distance of approximately 100 feet, and a skid pad performance of 0.88 g.

The press release said " a ¼-mile elapsed time of less than 14 seconds "

12 or 13 would be less than 14 according to my math.

well I would take that as it wont be running 12 out the box...
I mean then they would have said:
1/4-mile elapsed time of less than 13 seconds.
no??

Here's the deal. MFRs always quote performance on the safe side, whether it's because of lawyers, insurance, whatever. They don't want to have to explain to crappy drivers why they can't run 13 flat in their cars. Add to that, there are a lot of variables that have our cars running from high 12s to low 14s in different environments. They leave themselves lots of latitude on these claims and let the cars mags do the real testing.

As I understand it the Challenger isn't mich lighter than a Charger, so I wouldn't expect the 1/4 mile times to be much different than a Charger SRT8. A bit faster maybe, but not much. The 6-speed in the 09's might change things 'though.

No it didnt get 13.3 it actually got a 4.95 0-60 and a 13.9 1/4.

The car looks nice I wont lie. But really does suck butt cheeks and peanut butter.

Dodge is going down the drain with things. First the cancealation of the Viper and now a slow ass 2 door, that weights just as much as a magnum.

LMAO - listen to you...

The 13.9 is conservative. My MSRT pulled 13.4's stock in average air, others have done even better. Sure, we could have hoped for more, but it's hardly what I would consider "slow ass" ...

I thought dodge would put the challenger on a diet but it weighs in at 4100lb. Rather just stick with my charger that runs low 13s/high 12s and weighs 4200lb.

I will be sticking with my Magnum, too. Because if you look at those backseats: not much use. But then again, it is of course a different kind of car. And soooo sweet looking. Just have to hope to be able to own both one day. I told my wife today: if you collect purses, I should be able to collect HEMIs :-)

Dealer told me the Challenger weighs 100lbs less and is 12" shorter than the Charger. It's the same LX platform, 6.1 engine, trans, interior and so on. This year 80% in Orange, 20% Black & Silver only. Next year all colors and the 6 speed in the SRT as well as the RT 5.7 coming out. Basically a LX with a new outer skin and an interior with minor changes to what we share now. Not what I hoped for in performance, could live with the final exterior version and disappointed with the interior. Was number two on my dealer's list and they expect 3, told them to remove me from the list. The Challenger should have been so much more! Well maybe next year when the 6 speed and the other colors are available.

Get your facts straight before you make claims buddy. Its not using the LX platform. It will be using the new LY platform. And its not 12" (a foot) shorter than the Charger, its actually only a couple inches shorter.

Whoa, OLjustice, calm down big guy. Might not be the same platform, but looks like very similar seats, and dash, button placements, and some others. Might not be the same carriage. But it sure is going to feel like the same car weight and everything...lol

And for a 2-dr car, it sure is really long, not saying its bad. But the charger is longer than a magnum. by like 2 inches.
