Hi all,

I'm about to purchase a 07 3.5L Magnum and have a few questions. I want to do some minor things to it, mainly make it breath better and I see "hammer" everywhere on these forums. Are there any posted Dynos on the 3.5L and/or has anyone tried the K&N version??

I dont want to go crazy on this car I have a another Dodge "toy" that money goes into, but are there any other things I should Know about Magnums, tips trick, common issues etc??

Anyone have the info for getting into the "black box" on one of these that dose NOT have the steering wheel audio controls?

Lastly anyone know if switching out the headlight switch on CND made with a US made one will give me auto headlights, like you could in the 05's ..... and if so anyoen have the part number??

Sorry for the rant, lots I need to learn and know :)

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Theres just way too many post on the hammer to find the dyno results for the 3.5, found the Hemi ones but that did nto help much :P

Maybe I should keep hush hush about hte black box..... I know a tech in Brampton where they are made and he showed my body how to get into it, but he has audio controlls on the steering wheel.

*EDIT*
Found some of what I was looking for here http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=73046

THe Hammer does have the best dyno results.. I would also look inot a set of dual exhaust...magnaflow or mopar...unless you got cash to burn then Zoomers!

out of "the three forums" with these cars, there are dynos on the airhammer. the main one they tested gained very high numbers (around 12.58whp MAX and 10whp avg on a stock car http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=73046 ), but a later one tested only gained the avg 4-5 whp avg, 6-7max whp. http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=87036&page=2 not many tend to talk about the second dyno much. but in all fairness you have to look at all the dynos done not just one dyno with great numbers. see how the products work on many different cars on the same make and model. not everyone is going to gain 10+ hp. same goes for the v8 guys. the air hammer for the v6 actually outperformed pretty much MOST of the v8 gains. usually the more power you start with, the more you gain overall small rule of thumb. so i started off to do more research.

the k&n has dynoed at 11.68 rwhp max http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/63-1117.pdf , which technically and literally is less than 1hp (0.9 rwhp) difference than the air hammer and about 130$-180$ less depending on the options you decide with the air hammer. for myself i just dont feel 1rwhp is worth paying the extra 130$ (although with rev hammer being a local, brah, i am sure the 130$ would easily go into the customer service that some major places lack) sure the air hammer defintely produces more sound, but noise doesnt make power, power makes noise. some are just looking for sound when it comes to intakes. so really its all preference.

in doing research since we dont actually have a v6 mods face off, this is what lead me to wonder why is something nearly 350-400$ with only one dyno showing huge numbers, but another dyno showed half that with the same style setup.....performed on a bone stock LX, was so popular here, but rarely talked about on the other two.

so far there hasnt been a legit MFO or GIFO for any 3.5L or the 2.7L for that matter. there were plans but no one stepped up according to two guys (i believe matt robertson was one of them) i had a discussion with. I too have been directed to those forums numerous times only to see results dealing with v8's.

honestly intake wise, from the dynos that have been shown. on avg the Mopar or AEM (both made by AEM), the K&N, and Air Hammer have all shown consistent gains from many in the 5-7RWHP range on the majority of cars. it is VERY rare to see the 3.5L pull 10+ rwhp from just an intake. the car rev hammer tested was bone stock, and pulled high numbers. but the car, i believe brian dougherty was his name, tested was also bone stock and the numbers were only half of what rev's original car pulled. there was a 5rwhp gap.

this comes from visiting ALL THREE LX based forums, (i say it like that cause two of em have beef with each other and i believe both start with a "C" ...one ends in a "S" one ends in a "Z") emailing people, of which some had to find their old sheets, and some have moved up to v8's now.

all in all, the air hammer is a quality intake, its a cool design that similar to the old Iceman Intakes that were popular on GM and Dodge sport compacts back around early 2000, which try to capitalize on the venturi effect in the intake world. but as for it legitamently being the best, i still have doubts and did the research to back my doubts up.

however, there are other options out there, that are dyno proven to do the same performance wise but cost nearly half. it all depends on what you want to see under your hood or which brand you wish to support. all the major intakes made are pretty much quality parts no matter who the maker. i just tend to look at things from an overall perspective and also a "HP per Dollar" aspect.

As for common issues, a bit thing thats been a slight buzz i;ve seen since being here is the transmission dipstick o-ring leak....and depending on when your car was built, the coolant gunk buildup in some... those are both warranty fixable as there are TSB's on both.

Black box? are you talking about the PCM? Or are you talking about the so called box that records your driving, if thats it then don't worry, it's fiction on street cars but a lot of companies use them to keep their drivers in check.
