Alright, For the past few days I've noticed what sounds like a heat shield coming lose under the car.
Well I swing by the dealer to have them toss it up on a rack and take a look and also to make sure I don't have a cat going bad.
Well, as the car gets up, I find this............

I was reading on their site it should be, but I have to send them the Muffler and then they will decide if they want to replace it or fix it.
I don't think I'll be too happy if they seriously expect me to unmount it and send it in while I wait for a replacement.
They should send me a new muffler, I'll send em the broken one, if they feel i need to pay, At that point I will.
I however refuse to drive without a muffler.

Thats BS LazyPD I agree they should send you a new muffler and have you send the old one back once you get it, the pictures should be evidence enough that the product was defective!!

Looks like the welds just let go.. I've heard of only one other case of that happening, so hopefully its just a freak occurrence.. If I can manage to find a dealer with the Loudmouth I in stock, I will be ordering mine soon!

I also had a service tech write what they found (welds gave out, no signs of damage to muffler or components)
He's currently going through the LAPD hiring process as we speak so I did him some favors, he did some for me :-D

Wow that sucks. I have all three sets of SLP mufflers (LM1, LM2, Powerflo). I used some of them on my old Mustang, and am currently reusing the Powerflos on my Magnum. Haven't had any problems with mine, and the LM2 and Powerflos I have are about 2 years old now.

Yep, it looks like they went a bit heavy on polishing the welds away.
Good luck!

Thanks, but I would rather not pay MSRP.. Plus, I am also buying a Predator with the exhaust, so I am trying to do a package type deal with MarylandSpeed or Tbyrne..

The warranty stuff is always touchy because all it takes is one bad apple to ruin good will for everyone. While I think SLP will step up and fix the issue...warranties and mail order are always touch and go. Last year I had someone claim their SLP cats gutted themselves and were rattling. I went to bat with SLP and convinced them to send the new cats out. Well low and behold, when he returned the old ones, they obviously looked like they were installed upside down, and he hit them on a speed bump which broke all the substrate up. This is explicitly not covered under warranty, so SLP turned around and billed me the cost of the new cats they sent him, and told me if I want my money back to get it from him...which took week, and a lot of time wasted. Now because of this...I am a lot more cautious before I go to bat on a warranty claim with a manifactuer. One thing the helps your case is pictures. Your pictures are good...but most of the time when you ask customers for pictures of a problem, they send you pictures that look like were taken in the thickest London fog with the first camera phone made.
FWIW, The way their warranty is technically written, a part is not defective untill they can physically verify it is. You have a choice of either sending the part back, and waiting for them to send you a new one...or you can pay for a new one to be sent immediatly, and get credited when the defective peice is returned. Also, all the shipping is the customers responsibility.
Everyone likes to stomp their feet, and complain about how unfair this is...but in reality, it is not. If you buy an alternator for Autozone, and it breaks...your not getting a free replacement unless you bring the defective part back first. As for shipping, Autozone does not pay you for your time and gas to bring the part back to the store, pick up a new one, and drive back home. These are all things that are the customers responsibility and people do not question or argue with a brick and mortor store. On the internet though people for some reason expect the standards to be different. The internet allows you to have access to cheaper parts, or parts that are not available at a local store...but there is always the catch. In this case the catch is that any warranty issue is a little more complex, and harder for both the customer and manufacturer.
Either way the part obviously had a defect, and I think SLP will help you...I just wanted to make a point. Most of the time in these warranty issues I am the middle man between the customer and manufacturer. My number one goal is to make customers happy...but you already digging out a hole when a customer has a defective part.
