I was online playing CoD 4 till about 3 am this morning and when I went in the living room to turn off my laptop I had an email from Diablo reminding everyone to update their tuners. Well at 3 am, after many Budweisers, it kind of pissed me off so I sent them a message saying something like "That's great but what about us 3.5 LX people?"

Here's what I got back:
All we can say it is in the works. I currently do not have an ETA. Closest I can give is Q1 of 08.

Not much help but at least we know they are working on one.

Well that's not bad. At least we will hopefully get it within the next 3 months. As long as there are no delays. which actually happens a lot.

After all of the correspondence with Diablo about the 3.5L tuner it certainly sounds like they are serious about this. Lets all re-choice. :)

Why does everyone want to tune a 3.5L's PCM? Dodge has tuned the PCM for max performance with out going over board like making the motor run lean or rich.

i want it for the trans, tire size, and cooling fans settings.

I'm not an expert, but I'd be willing to bet that it isn't tuned for MAX performance...Nobody manufacturer ever completely pushes the envelope. Which is why there are so many aftermarket parts for ever kind of car imaginable...

But what do I know...I'd still buy one to mess w/it :)

I have no idea what kind of tranny the LX class uses but as for tire size you can get that adjusted at the dealer and for the cooling fans there isn't really a reason to modify them.

For a while there Dodge had monthly PCM updates for the LH class. By the end of 2003 Dodge had basicly maxed it out. People have tried the Megasquirt ECU and add-on chips and have done more harm then good. It might work for drag strips but for daily driving you're going to hurt the motor. For a example on my old motor. I tried a custom flashed PCM and ended up with this. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c166/TCPMeta/trep/Rebuild/11-10-07_1309.jpg

Speed limiter, shifting and to take full advantage of free flowing exhaust and intake.

We have a member here who put a 100 shot of nitrous on his 3.5L V6. It did amazing stuff and the engine was fine.

If anyone installs a turbo or supercharger on their V6 they will need access to the tuning.

Only reason i`d want the tuner as well is to be able to fart with trans settings/tire size and other goodies like the gear indicators on the dash.

The stock tune is for the stock intake, stock exhaust manifolds, stock exhaust... etc.

Thank you for your excellent efforts while drinking and gaming DannyC... I'm pretty much doing the same while not behind the wheel waiting for the Predator's release ;)

I can tell you the factory tune is NOT maxed out for performance. I had B&G flash my stock PCM and it was much better. More like it should have been from factory. The thing is I believe it can still be fine tuned to get more for individual mods. It other words I don't think one tune fits all. I would like to be able to adjust spark adv. A/F ratio, transmission firmness, etc.

Who ever said there's no reason to adjust fan on temp obviously doesn't realize it doesn't come on till 217*

They are keeping us updated. In the other thread Mike is NOW saying that he never promised us a tuner and that if there is any news we will the first to know.

But then again, this was posted by Mike W. on the Diablo Sport forum:

Guys, your not forgotten about. Don't worry.
Everyone here knows they sold way more V6 cars than they did V8's.
Real world is V8's usually get the initial attention due to various reasons.

And I found this from Mikel, again on the Diablo Sport forum:

Guys. I have said it before and will say it again.
We dont hate anyone.
Believe me, if I was going to hate on someone, it would be the V6 Mustang guys...lol.
I do not have an ETA on the V6 tool at this time.
We are in the middle of development on all the new diesel trucks, which are our bread and butter and make up 60% of our sales, so they get #1 priority.
We will not keep it a secret once we start on the V6 tool, so dont worry so much.
You will not miss it, and just find it in your local speed shop one day, I promise.

Thanks

What i`m seeing here is this: something new about the diesels will come out every year meaning they`ll have to keep on top of THAT market thus pushing us lesser market v6 LX`s down the seniority list...im not seeing a diablo tuner in our future any time soon...like the saying goes, I`ll believe it when i see it. I guess we were born a visible minority in a hemi world.

There are two options for PCM tuning if you really really want to do it.

A. Go the the dealership and get some one to do a custom flash

B. Look into the Megasquirt system.

What dealer is going to do that? if most dealer bitch about basic mods like air intake do you honestly think they will/can reprogram your pcm with a custom tune.
if I am not mistaking megasquirt is for engine management only. you can't adjust fan, tcm, or do a simple reprogram for mods like header, exhaust etc etc etc.

No dealership will do a custom tune to an LX. This will not happen.

It's not really that they won't... rather that they can't. The star scan's aren't designed to do any custom tuning. Just diagnostics really, and factory supplied flashes.

B&G did the only [ thus far ] tuner for our v6's.... they could'nt do it? Since they "somewhat" broke the code??

If you follow the conversation, we were talking about the dealer doing a custom tune. Not B&G.

I have the B&G and I am not really sure it is any more a "tuning" than the JetChip. The ultimate questions is really about cost and I am not so sure it was worth the $$$ spent. Yes it did open up the rev limiter and the speed limiter, I have noticed a bit more torque but the numbers are not there since I havent done a dyno. Results at the track are minimal at best. If the B&G was supposed to give me 20 hp...it hasnt been seen n the 1/4 mile times.

This is why I was hesitant about the expensive mod. I have the Jet stageII and it is what it is, but it was only a couple hundred bucks. That B&G is much more $$$.

Don't knock the B&G tune. It's much better than factory. I could tell the difference right away. Yes it was expensive but at the time they had a monopoly and the R&D probably did take awhile.

I do think if the diablo works with the B&G flash there will be better tweaking for individual applications. I also want to be able to make the knock sensors less agressive.

Something is holding my car back till it gets to 3800-4000 rpm. I don't know if it's knock sensors retarding timing or the 2 stage intake someone mentioned but if I can figure this out I would be much happier.

I hope we can program the throttle to be 1 to 1 with the pedal, instead of having the lag.....

sounds like the manifold tuning valve that i posted about. also might be as jimsmag06 posted below, most TB valves arent 1:1... they do lag a bit.
