Tire wheel HELP!!!
I am in Afghanistan and the wife is getting my new wheels/tires installed...but she said
"Front tires no problem

rear tires rub the plastic tire well so bad the tires will be trashed in 20 miles .... what do you want me to do?"

My car is not lowered and no suspension upgrade.

staggered Foose Nitrous 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear
Pirelli Scorpion Zeros (265/45/20 and 295/40/20)

WTF????

What is the offset for the back ones? You might need spacers to clear the lip... Just a thought.. Congrats on the new wheels I wish my wife would buy me some rims and tires....

I don't know but they came off a maggie, from a guy on the forum.
Crap...this sucks!

Well, I guess I got something to look forward too. I got the same set up he has, but don't have them installed yet. The offset for the rear are 20mm, fronts are 15mm. Just a question, where did you buy the rims at?

Another problem I have heard of is if they haven't lowered it off the rack it might appear to rub but will not once lowered onto the ground!

feros....ask wifey to stop by the installer and ask if they think it needs a 3mm or 5mm spacer. I'm a few hours north, but would be happy to help out if I can.

I will stop by the tire shop this afternoon. This is a trusted friend of my best friend so he will truely listen to any information i bring him. He already researched the tire pressure sensor ... we never thought about a spacer.

If you can get the spacers for the back that would be your best bet... I am reading this correctly that 05r/t to 06 daytona. Does the daytona have the road and track? If so that just might be your problem as that suspension is close to the SRT with out the brembo brakes. So there may be a difference in the fitment...

It does have the R&T package.
It did come off a 05 R/T Maggie.

just talked to her feros...she's on her way to the tire shop.
If she needs spacers, she knows what size to source. She indicated there is a car shop next store to the tire place.

I'll google a few auto shop near there and see if I can make a call or two to determine who has the spacers nearby.

Figured as much! I did call Advanced on merrimack, they didn't have any. But the guy there thought Pepboys would have them.

I shot her a text message with the results. NONE of the tire shops around here carried them...figured we tried to get that car with shoes that fit! :)

Good luck and stay safe over Feros!

There is that one, and a Auto Zone across the street, a Napa down the road..now going the other way from our house, there is a NAPA, and a Carquest.
Now hit Newport News and than you got alot more to choose from to include Pepboys.

GeekGrl
11-19-2007, 07:21 PM
Checked all local auto parts stores .... only Napa was willing to order them BUT they were too big .... 6.1mm .... was advised (Thanks PaCharger) to go with a 5mm, or 3mm if possible. Pep Boys in Newport News has and can only get a 6.1mm.

Malcom, guy putting the new wheels on says 5 would be fine, might possibly get away with a 3.

Online shopping here I come .... anyone got a favorite vendor who stocks these?

This is Williamsburg VA .... Speed Shop ....ugh ....I might find a "speed Shop" for 18th century buggies.... but not so sure Feros wants wooden wheels on his car.

I did call them and ordered the spacers ... they are in CA and thanks to the time difference they will ship out today, will have them tomorrow, wednesday at the latest.

X2.... been there, done that with a set of Budnik's long ago that took MONTHS to arrive. The guys at Discount Tire were convinced that they would continue to rub until we lowered the car onto the ground.....

Just got the PM...

They bought the wheels from me.

My '05 Maggie R/T was lowered with an SRT suspension and had no fit issues @ all. I originally got the wheel package from Ernie and Lori @ 402 Motoring. They sold a ton of these Foose packages and I'm sure they'd know what to do. I haven't heard of spacers being used with this particular package but if that what it takes to get it right...

Please keep me (us!) posted...

Thanks,

Matty

Feros - I have these wheels, you are fine, with the car up the rear suspention will sag and the wheels WILL hit until they are under load.

The fronts are 20x8.5 +15 and teh rears are 20x10 +25 and fit fine on the RT/Daytona

Just have them let the car down and then look :)

I used an alignment rack to check mine with load for clearance issues when I first got them.

Measure the "BACKSET".

"BACKSET" is the distance from the mounting pad to the inner edge of the rim. 6" is about max. If it is more than 6" add a spacer to reduce the "BACKSET" to 6" or less.

It is "BACKSET" that determines the clearance issues on the inside.

Offset will not give you the whole picture. A wider rim W/the same offset will have more "BACKSET".

FWIW, I have this same package of wheels tires. I do not have rubbing in the rear at all. I installed them in my garage. They showed up mounted/balanced (thanks 402). I do remember someone putting 315's on the rear without rubbing, but while the car was on the lift they rubbed real bad. Good luck and post plenty of pics!

No worries, everything will work out. The tire guy may just not know and jumped the gun about put weight on them and they don't rub, or I may have a freak of a car (it would match the owner) it may need the spacers. I sure know that I don't need any spacers...I am spacey enough.

PaCharger

d'oh...thought the problem was solved.
So let me understand this...he doesn't know for sure if they rubbed or not once some weight was put on them?

Funny, i have the nivomat self leveling...after jacking the car up each time at the drags it takes about 250 feet of driving till they settle back down....last sunday I actually thought I didn't have the lugs on all the way and stopped the car to get out an check them. When I stopped....(only 200ft from where I started) the car lowered itself and voila....got in the car and drove off no troubles.

Feels a bit like a flat tire though (probably rubbing...could be the same thing the tire guy felt).

Good luck Feros and GG.

GeekGrl
11-21-2007, 04:15 PM
Tire guy put rear wheels on and did NOT need the spacers .... which he discovered AFTER he put the car on the gound and rechecked the clearance ..... so anyone need to buy some spacers?

I will pick it up after work and take pictures, it will be int he dark, but it'll give everyone a sneak peek.

Thanks to everyone here for getting me (and the tire guy) through this!

"anything yet?" ... "how about now" ... "hey now?" ...you get the point.

"Done!
Spacers not needed!

Called the shop that did the work .... got treated like a "dumb girl" they will only talk to our really good friend Bobby, who grew up with the folks that own and run the shop.

I dare say they don't know who they just pissed off ... while I sure don't know everything i'm not "dumb" and I get really riled up when people talk down to me.

The dented tail pipe after further inspection aligns perfect with a jack, and the only jack under this car is at the tire shop.
Worse than the damage for the dent (which can probably be hammered out decently) what if the car had fallen and someone had gotten seriously injured?

After they talk to my friend Bobby, I will be calling back to seek repair at their expense at another shop. But I will also be playing the "Army Wife" card .... <Mumbling> mess with my husbands car when he's deployed and expect to get away with it I don't think so.
