I've read here that some people have their ESP disabled. My question is why? Wouldn' t it be better to keep it on for safety?

You can't do doughnuts or burnouts with it on LOL

It's for showing off. :)

ESP bogs the car down by cutting the throttle.

Try making a fast 90 degree right/left turn and accelerate.
The car will bog down big-time, to the point were it becomes dangerous as the car will not respond.

But I never turn off ESP in the rain. On wet roads our cars break loose too fast and without warning.

I've never pushed my car with in on to where it completely took control.

But, during wet conditions and turning on a sharp angle across a heavily traveled bridge.. driving non-aggressively, the ESP kicked in and saved my ass from spinning out. It's like it turns into a cat and just claws the ground then goes back to normal.

But, when I want to have fun.. spin the tires,, take a fun turn or something stupid like that, I only turn it off to have fun for that second. Then I turn it off.

Cool video. It's shows just how effictive our ESP systems are! Too bad I'll never get a chance to try it out here in So Cal. I really could have used that in Denver! I was always running into things when it snowed.

Try this one, looks like Top Gear, frozen lake at 70mph, ESP off and on. Pretty cool, at one point, mid-maneuvar, you can see the right front lock up to pivot the car.

Just for clarification: in the video it first speaks about ABS. We have that for breaking, plus ESP for stability in tight curves. The video nicely demonstrates both.

That's indeed a great video.

VERY EASY just push and hold your esp button down for a few seconds the dash will chime and read esp off. I think esp is one of the best things this car has to offer with out it i would not be able to drive it in the rain. I have turned it off in the rain and it get a bit scary at 70 with no traction...:)

I thought hitting the ESP button on the dash only disabled it like 70% or something like that...I have an 05 Magnum by the way if that matters...

I would need ESP disabled in order to drive your car on the dyno at work:)

And yes pushing the button doesnt do much, and either does the dumb pull the fuse thing.

The "hold the ESP button for 10 seconds" thing only works on the SRT8s. For R/Ts and below, you'll need a ESP mod to turn it all the way off.

Living in AZ, I keep ESP off at all times unless it's raining. I like to have fun with my car.

I want to do the mod for my sxt can I just pull the 17 Fuse or wire up the switch to interrupt the power on the fuse as stated in the knowledgebase?

I found out the mod where, once you're in drive and rolling, you turn the key to start and hold it.. it kills the lights[?], radio, AC, electronics pretty much.. then after a few seconds, a Ding! is heard and the ESP, BAS, and Mr.Squiggly line appears.

I'm pretty sure this is the No ESP mod, cause it lights up the same lights.

And, I only did this lastnight, but, I had NO problem breaking the tires lose, no matter where I was. Though, i don't know if it made a difference, it was 40* lastnight here around Dallas, Texas.

Will the tires smoke? Will find out in soon times!! :]

No mods by the way.

I only ever turn off ESP under very controlled conditions -- i.e., the track.

Especially since I installed the Quaife, ESP is strictly for stability (since it's pretty tough to lose traction with an LSD), and it doesn't interfere on the daily drive -- and if it does, I'd bet it would be to my advantage.

For everyone who talks about it kicking in and bogging the car around town -- that's exactly why I installed the Quaife. Power around corners, whipping around traction -- no problem!

ive heard that and ive done it,it was called "performance mode"and it works, throttle response is better and it tightens up the gear shifting, drinks fuel like a fish tho.lol

Yeah, i feel the car respond quicker to the gas and shifts really strong at peak points, more so then "normal mode".

Why have we been doing this No ESP Mod, if this has been available?
Or, is it 07+ cars that have had it.

MY357
11-24-2007, 10:38 AM
That is only available on newer models, my 05 does nothing turning the key...
