Gonna be buying new rims, American Racing Vintage Torq-thrust M and will need some new rubber.:racing:
Right now I have Toyo Proxes 255/45/R20. I generally like em, have 36k on em and they still have some tread left. I do have an issue with one of the left side tires (currently on the front), there is an imbalance that changes with tire pressure. I have a very slow leak and when the air pressure gets under 32 the tire shakes at 55 mph. Its pretty much ok if the the pressure is over 32, although I can still feel a little bit. This started happening at about 20k and I felt that maybe the Toyo's are not the best option.
Soooooo, Tirerack recommends 245's, I have 255's, will 255's fit on 20x8.5 wheels? What tires do you like? I was looking at Kumho Ecsta ASX. Thanks for any replies, this forum rocks!

Thanks Scooby! Toyos seem to be the consensus hear --- although I'm gonna go with the Kuhmos, cheaper and good reviews. If I don't like em, I'll have a set for sale soon! Thanks again!:thumbs_u:

I've heard good about the Kumhos myself. No experience with them but I've heard a good review or two.

Thanks Matt, I think I'll keep my old Panther wheels and Toyo tires so someday I can really wear them out at Willow Springs, next time you guys go.... let me know!

It may be as soon as the 2nd weekend in December buddy. You think you can make that? I'm sure Cam and Mark would be in. My trouble is I don't 110% know my car will be done in time and I'm afraid to buy into a track day and eat the fees (I'm 95% sure it'd be OK).

I have had them all except Pirelli and the Toyo's dont really hold the road. My Kumho's have been perfect. Ive had 2 sets of Ecsta's and wont go to another brand ever.

You know thats a good point. I've gone on record here as saying the Toyo Proxes ST's were NOT tires I would ever buy again given their wet weather performance.... and I'll say it here again. Those were the worst tires I have ever driven on in light rain when accelerating.

Even with the proxes 4, 1987 Dodge Minivans can out accelerate me in the wet. They're better than F-1's in the wet though.

I've got the Proxes ST's as well, and I totally agree. Although I don't have acceleration issues with the AWD, I hate their wet weather cornering. If you like the sound of squealing tires when cornering on dry pavement, these are the tires for you. It doesn't take much to get them squealing! Unfortunately, they do have a very long tread life (which I'm sure is why they suck when it comes to traction). I won't be getting another set.

I've got nothing to compare with, my car came with the Proxes ST.
I was wondering if it was the car or the tires in the rain, even with ESP I would have trouble in the rain.
2nd week in Dec is way too soon for me, we'll have to see about bigger brakes also, I hear the stock RT brakes won't cut it there.

Yeah it was the tires. The Proxes ST would break free at the slightest throttle, and the freaking ESP would not kick in. I could be in a left hand turn lane going 25 mph and be babying the throttle and they would go. Once I left my foot in it to see what happened and I got clean sideways. No ESP intervention and I corrected it myself. They were fine in corners as long as no throttle was applied. After they had worn for a few k miles the problem mostly went away, but I didn't have the problem with the conti's, nor the RSA's, nor the F1's. The Toyo ST's were dangerous in the rain.
If you want bigger brakes you will love them, but you can do pads, and stainless lines and fancy fluid for a lot less. But you can't beat a TCE Wilwood kit for value over time. And you can bleed the brakes hell'a easy in between runs and poof your brakes are back in shape again ready for the next maniac run.
