I dont have my magnum rt yet but I have been learning every thing about it. I know there is no ign wire at hand when you install the harness just two constants. I know I can splice in to the ign harnes it self but I was going to leave that for the remote start only.

You can pick up a switched 12V wire FROM one of the 12 volt outlets (lighter sockets). The one in the centre console is always on and the one in the dash where the ashtray is is switched with the ignition key.

If your replacing the stock radio with an aftermarket one you can get an adapter so you don't have to cut in to your harness.

Yes I know this allready but that adapter does not have a IGN wire.

I got the switched by tapping INTO the cigarette lighter. I dont use it other than to charge the cell. P*ssed me off when i got the adapter and soldered it to the radio harness for a nice clean install. Then had to run a loose wire. Just for more infor the METRA adapter for the '04 Durango works beautifully. Even get an extra cubby hole. Heres a couple of pics

365magnum: Do you feel that your "upgrade" was really an upgrade? Between that and the "shift knob" you just made your car look 10grand cheaper IMHO.

Let's take a poll: Which car would people rather have ; 356Magnum's with the upgrades or Fred's Magnum? Oh I forgot, Fred doesn't have a Magnum ! He's only got "kind" words to Magnum owners and Brampton builders.

Ya, but give him two points for making a donation to these boards.

You're right Henry. For the record, you have to give credit where credit is due......2 points for Fred.

For anyone that has installed an aftermarket radio in their Magnum or 300, have you had any problems? I have heard that the factory head unit is on the bus and causes errors when replaced.

Do I get extra credit for my AWD RT being less than a week away FROM finally showing up at the dealership?

Mine came with the cheapo 4 speaker system. Since I dont have the NAV or steering wheel controls, the install was pretty straight forward. The only issue is the lack of an ignition controlled power at the harness. I also have upgrade the door and rear speakers to some 3-way Sony units and added the Alpine amp and Subs. My website below has the latest pics. Still working on the the Lexan glass panel.

Have you had any issues with the CD changer being so close to the subs? It looks pretty slim like it would have fit in the center console, glovebox or under one of the seats... But I guess if it doesn't skip FROM the subs hitting, and it looks pretty nice next to the amp there.

FYI but the 12V outlet by the ashtray isn't always switched, it's changable between switched and constant on, if you have the smokers GROUP it is set to constant on, it is easily changable though, the fuse socket for it has 2 positions, one is switched, one is constant on.

Also in the fuse box at the rear of the car there is a 12v supply. There is a set of jumpers you have to move to configure it but you can set it up to where it turns off when the Driver door opens. CHECK the owners manual thats how I did my 12v remote for my amp.

Shiltz: How do you switch it? I want to hard wire in my Valentine One radar detector and I think I'll be easier to get to the back of the cig. lighter in the console than the one in the ashtray (I could be wrong though). I want mine (in the console) to be on only when the key is turned (like the one in the ashtray). How do you go about switching it?

Thanks!

Dr Bonz: Shiltz said that the fuse for that socket is two position... So, just shift the fuse FROM it's current location to make it use the alternate pin in it's location... That should make it Ign switched... Haven't tried it myself.. .but sounds pretty simple.

The fuse in MY RT that is sitting outside my office right here is set FROM factory (or maybe dealer set) to be switched... So moving the fuse wouldn't be necessary...

Thanks. I guess I should just go and look at it and it would probably be self explanitory. :)
