Driving into work this morning on the highway a Toyota Camry XLE came up on me very fast and started tailgating. I was in the left lane behind traffic so I had no place to go. I hate it when people do that.

The guy stayed behind me and when the traffic was clear I went for it. He kept right on me. Traffic kept stopping us and then it was clear again. This happened a few times. Finally he passed me on the right. I had it to the floor and was going fast but he still passed and kept going. I could not keep up.

The Toyota (I'm guessing) had a 3.5-liter V6 (268 hp, 248 lb-ft). I saw dual pipes. It was probably stock.

This sucks. He probably thought he was beating a Hemi. Just wait until he comes up against an R/T or an SRT-8.

I've never seen this guy before on the highway. I hope to never again.

If it will make you feel better, I smoked one of those last month and within a day a V6 Accord. They both came after me. Now I want to find one to stomp with my Ram. From a roll my Ram is as quick as my RT, it just takes 2.3 sec to go 60 feet , kinda like launching a battleship, a battleship with nitrous, that is.

from what I gather it uses the same 2.5L gas motor that the base edition does, and you can mod the hell out of that 4-banger...

coupled with 100% torque across the power band for the electric motor and it's a monster, and light only around 3400 lbs..

stock it ain't $hit, 0-60 in 8 seconds, but you can mod the gas motor as it is the same base motor as I stated... there are a lot of parts, turbos, tuners etc for it....

my girl has the nissan maxima 3.5L, I took it for a drive one day...its fast as HE double hockey sticks...handling sux when u get to high speeds but its gets there rather quick and able to sustain it as well...I had to go SRT, from SXT...cant let my girl leave me in the dust

I'm impressed by the 6200+ redline of the 3.5L, but they aren't 'fast' by any means. My wife thought her Magnum (which is why I'm here..it's actually HERS <lol>) could outgun my '96 ImpalaSS. Sorry to say (well, not really <g>), the SXT can't come close. Now granted my SS is no where near stock, but even in stock trim, the 3.5 just doesn't have the grunt. My SS dyno'd at 250RWHP and 308lbs torque with the 'usual' mods of cold air, new UltraFlo mufflers (not catback) and some custom programming (never even cracked the valve covers off and NO headers). On drag radials, it'll run 14.2s (including programming and gears). Has anyone investigated the new STS Turbo system (out of Simi Valley,CA I think?) for the 3.5L engine? I would do that in a heartbeat if its proven. On that note, are there alternate gears we can toss in the V6s that'll give some off the line help? That would seem like an easy mod but I haven't read anything on it in the forum yet.

Cheers!

I really hate these stories...people die due to street racing and excessive speeding. There is no reason to tell these stories, whether you win or lose. I lost my parents and inlaws all at one time on October 26, 2007, due to a tractor trailer that was traveling at twice the posted speed for trucks. Keep the racing on the track. Please!

Sorry to hear about that Zmagnum. Thats never fun. Speaking of fast Toyotas....when we were coming back from Wilcox after we passed through Tucson I had the cruise set to about 85 and this little Prius Hybrid came up on my butt like I was sitting still. I accelerated a little through the triple digits to get around a semi and let him pass, and he was right behind me the whole time.

This is a thread from October. I never once mentioned the speed or location. The limits out here are 75 MPH where we were. I wasn't the one tailgating. I didn't try passing someone on the right. I didn't keep on going. This wasn't a street race.

If you are here to police what others post about driving you have a lot of work ahead of you.

But you are right if the tractor trailer would have had his rig at the drag track instead of on the highway none of this would have happened to your parents and inlaws.

That's scary. I've not run across a fast Toyota Prius or at least anyone who drives one fast. In fact I usually drive ultra slow in front of them and let them pass me and yell "speed demon" out the window.

Lets not. I did take note of the fact when I saw the thread title that this is a resurrection of an old thread that could have a subject that is now banned here. It pushes towards that line but doesn't cross it in my view. So I won't Abyss it.

But make no mistake... street racing is a forbidden subject here, if for no other reason than the liability that is transferred to this forum as a result of any tolerance of same. Don't like it? Me neither. Tough rocks for all of us.

When you're stuck behind traffic going 55 to 60 you can't go 75 until it clears. But you already knew that.

Hmmm...My '03 Maxima ran 14.60 stock in the 1/4...
Have not even thought about "What would it do now?" after Intake, Headers, Exhaust, NX, etc...Plently quick with lots of torque steer...
Put it back to stock and I let my Mom drive it...Still pretty quick!

I think I read the test results aren't far off a stock R/T Mag for the Camary or the new Accord. Lot of weight difference too.

I guess the other driver was the world's worst or he didn't know he was racing. A 3.5 VQ will annihilate a 3.5 HO, let alone a 3.2. In 02 the Maxima was rated at 255 hp vs. the 3.2's 225 hp. The Intrepid is also bigger and has a "terrible" transmission. The Maxima (in manual trim) had a 0-60 time of 6 sec flat - the auto only slightly slower. Can't say the same for any 3.5 HO (except perhaps Prowler ;))

I was told the LX v6 line uses the 42RLE and its nothing more then a 42LE/A606 but RWD. Same goes with the prowler, they use the 42RLE also. The maxima I raced had a auto transmission cold air and a catback. My trep had autostick cold-air, custom dual exhaust, with a PCM from a 300m special, transgo shiftkit and 3.89 transfer gears from the older trep SE 2.7L. My fastest time with that old setup was 14.60. With my 3.5L im trying to get high 13s.

This was with my Zex 75shot
1/4mile 14.600
1/4 miles MPH 95.000
0-60foot ET 2.1000

No matter how fast you are, there is always someone faster. But the percentage of daily drivers, that can carry a boxed 50 inch TV in the back, lay down a 1.60 sixty foot time, or make you ease off the accelerator long before it stops pulling, is rapidly approaching zero.

Got to be careful with some of those Asian V-6 sedans. A few, like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry will run to 60 mph in 5.9-6.0 seconds and run right around 14.5-14.6 in the quarter. Some bone stock 5.7 Magnums and base R/T Charger may have a bit of trouble with them, but will get them on the top end. Remember, they are geared better and weigh 700-800 pounds lighter. If the motor of that Camry was in Maggies engine bay, it would not be any quicker. It is all about the weight difference of the cars: remember; apples to apples.

My little brother's buddy has one of those new V6 hybrid Camrys. He lined up against me one evening and we went for it. He was 2-2.5 car lenghts off at least, but it was still a quick (maybe even fast) little Toyota.

Chin up, 3.5 boys. Know your cars well and realize that with a little less weight, those Camrys would be game, no problem at all.:thumbs_u:

Sorry guys but I bought my wife one of those and she rubs in that she can out run me. :blam: Those little things are fast.
They make those out of the smallest thinnest metal they can get buy with. It is a small, light chincy car, that makes it good on milage and faster. We have a full size luxery car, that is safe and built to be durable, and luxiruos, but it is also a bit slower because it is built strong, and is roomy.

Try taking it on at the track, with an oval, or slolom. Not to mention how much more it cost for a smaller car.
