Over at GMinsidenews.com, they have an interesting comparison between the Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300, and Mercury Montego. Old rivals are back at it again, apparently. They also have a poll. http://forums.gminsidenews.com/showthread.php?t=7932&referrerid=9200
Of course the 300 is the best, but the buying public now has a nice array of American made near-luxury cars FROM which to choose.
They really seem to like the 300. Good! Even the "other guys" can agree, it's defintely something!

I have finally decided to buy a Montego. It is the only sedan with a big enough trunk for me, and I really do not want another wagon / SUV. Too bad that DCX had their silly fixation with keeping the 300 under 5 meters long. I even think that it would look better with a longer trunk. The Montego has many excellent features, including good handling and brakes, and the AWD gets rid of the front-drive negatives, and it is agood value - with all options excpe the sun roof, the sticker price is $29,490.

Good luck with it. Let us know how you like it.

The CVT in the Five Hunderd / Montego / Freestyle wi l really fool you. The car Motor Trend drove was a six speed sutomatic, and that it really is substantially slower than the CVT car. I though I had become accustomed to the CVT, but it takes more time.
I drove a Montego again this weekend at a shopping center event. The hills coming out of the center really showed a lack of power, especially when compared to driving our C230 out the same way. It seemed slower than the Five Hundred I had driven before, but the Five Hundred was on level roads, and on a level road to a freeway ramp. Now Motor Trend is out with a report showing the same thing - 8.6 to 60 is just not good enough, especially for $30,000.
So I may be back to the Magnum, although I really would like to buy a 300C. However, I need a work car, and it has to have enough space. Maybe the Charger will have a bigger trunk (something the police agencies would also want for their vehicles -- if they want, DCX could easily take most of the police market away FROM Ford).
