Got an e-mail FROM a dealer today where I ordered a car and have had it sit in BX for an eternity. It was possibly going to hit the allocation this time around and now I find out FROM them it won't be built as ordered due to sunroof hold ups!!

Anyone else hear of this? Can anyone confirm/refute this? I want to know if this is truly the case or if something else (run around, etc.) is going on.

Thanks.

I asked the gang over at Brampton Assembly if there is a problem with the sunroof supply. The response was nope - no shortage issues or problems with them.

I,ve been saying this since it reared it's ugly head last spring, there never has been a problem with getting the sunroofs. The manufaturer of these roofs has a stockpile of them and Brampton has the storage facility for them.

By the way, sunroofs are standard equipment on Canadian C's and my dealer has a bunch of them. I still believe that it is the dealers who see a cash cow that upset the folks who have factory ordered their cars, and if they cancel their ORDER these dealers will be able to mark-up the cars. I also found out, at least here in Canada that allocation of these cars are not effected by factory orders and a dealer can ORDER as many as they want but only if they are confirmed orders.

On another note, my dealer was saying that the Magnum is not selling very well in my city and they have a few on the lot that are not moving. I have only seen one on the road but quite a few 300's. Maybe the lull before the storm?

Interesting - I have been told that dealers can only ORDER 4 RT's FROM the factory until further notice....

my dealer told me that in ORDER to get magnums for STOCK, they had to ORDER 10 RED Ram 1500 pickups of 10 Caravans....

Confirmed customer orders can be placed at any time....

Hate to say it but maybe these rules on factory orders are only on the Canadian side of the border, and if it is I would be yelling blue murder if I was in the US.

What difference should it make to a dealer how many factory ordered cars he gets. They don't pay for them, the customer does, they don't sit in a storage lot gathering fees, the customer(like me) is chomping at the bit to pick it up. Sombody is being sold a bill of goods!!!!!

There may be a quota on dealer showroom orders due to the demand until the product gets spread out over the continent. If I'm not mistaken the dealer owns the inventory at factory invoice the minute it goes out the factory so whatever they can presale is money in their pocket.

GM owns almost no product as my company doesn't get paid for parts installed until the truck goes out the door of the factory and then the dealer gets the bill as soon as it's shipped.

They hate guys like me who get supplier discount as they make very little unless it's getting product off the showroom like I did.
I saw tons of these cars going south but couldn't find one in a dealership until mid July. I had to wait 2 weeks to see one in person and actually bought it as soon as it came in.

I stopped by the dealer today...and asked how things were, he said he "had just gotten" an e-mail saying sunroofs and nav systems were on back ORDER so they cant give me rough delivery date . . . I am trying not to get angry with these people at the dealership, I work a PT job in a jewelry store and us sales people really have no line of sight to special orders and processing...so I assume my sales guy is giving me a line of sh!t to keep the heat off of him until he can give me a definate date as to when the car will be here. He doesn't want to be the bad guy. My sales guy is pretty cool and the guys at the brampton assembly site seem to care and want to help, but the whole mystery process in between these people angers me. If the car isn't going to be here in 8 weeks, fine, but give me the delivery date so i can arrange finances and sell my vehicle at the correct time and not be left high and dry without wheels...sorry just on a rant.

Go ahead and rant! I know in my dealing with the dealership on this ridiculous system they are VERY well aware I am frustrated and have really had to hold back on some e-mails and phone calls. It is not easy to remain prefessionally annoyed in communications when you are actually getting beyond pissed inside!!
