Car arrives with Nav option and premium radio. I want to add Sirius to it. What is involved? Do you have to rip out the headliner to install an antennae? Does a little Sirius module go inside the nav radio so that externally you do not see anything new? Do you still get all the wonderful EVIC display and functionality of the factory system? Has anyone gone through this upgrade?

From what I understand the dealer installed (or individually installed) sirius is the same as the factory. You do have to drill a hole in your car for the cable FROM the sat receiver on the roof. The interface is the same. Interacts with nav and evic.

For what its worth.... I have my antenna for my aftermarket XM radio sitting on my rear deck right behind the rear seats. Its not outside the car (my Intrepid)... but I still get excellent signal.

I would try this before drilling holes in the car... but if you want the factory look outside the car... go for it.

Thanks a great idea. I did not want to drill a hole in brand new paint and rip out a headliner . Factory look is not important to me.

Dragon, how are you getting away with putting Sirrus in your car. Do you have a US address for payment? My understanding is that the bloody Liberal CRTC does not allow this here in Canada.

I talked to a Sirius telephone support person and she confirmed that you cannot subscribe to Sirius if you have a Canadian address. Then she went on to say that many Canadians do have an American Address "of convenience" where you are billed and then pay. I guess something like the "grey" market for satellite TV that used to be common in Canada. Definitely legal though. Interesting that the Canadian government would stick their nose in the private affairs of its citizens. "How dare a Canadian be allowed to listen to commercial free music?!"
Anway in a year Sirius will be avaiable in Canada because the CBC wants to broadcast on ithemselves. For me the frustrating part is that Istill cannot ORDER the 300C optioned the way I want----UConnect (factory) AWD, Sirius TPM.

I agree with you about the government, I still don't understand how those bunch of brain dead zombies got back in. Oh Well!!! I can't say I agree with you on the AWD, there is too much negative press about AWD and I think it is a waste of money. I can hardly wait for the snow to arrive to test this C out. I finally get to drive a rear wheel drive again since I retired FROM my police service.

Not sure I like the thoughts of the CBC getting involved in satellite service, it already costs us taxpayers to much money to suppost their drivel.

Wanted to add the aftermarket Sirius to the Magnum Nav unit but this is a differnt connector. My Connector out of the Satallite brain is round connector like a din type. The only open slot that you can plug anything INTO on the back of the Nav unit is square. Here is a picture. Anyone else do this. Do I need a converter?

There are two componets to the sat/sirus system. One is the standard antenna and the other is the vehicle sensitive kit to interface this system. The dealer charged $525 installed complete.

Now that I have the Sirus installed, it does not display the channel on the dash display. Guess I'll be going back to the dealership!

All right! this is the info I am looking for. What is the "interface kit" and does it get stuffed in to the guts of the pre-existing factory Nav radio? So that you would never know that it was there? Someone said the antennae can stay inside the car----whats your experience?

I went to the dealer today and found out that my Kenwood unit I bought about a year ago and took out of my last car is most likely not going to work. Again the kenwood is a round 13 pin plug and the radio has a square 10 pin plug. So with this I went to the dealer today and bought the receiver and antenna. 174.00 I thought that it would include the wiring. Nope! It is just the hardware. Of course if you actually want the wiring to hook it up, it's another 124.00 So it's about 300.00 to buy the parts. Now the sad part is that I was able to purchase the receiver and antenna, but the wiring is actually back-ordered. So now I sit with my radio pulled out of my car and a big hole in my dash, I have the receiver and antenna, but I won;t have the wiring. Go Dodge!

It will work fine sitting on the rear window ledge however, with mine on the roof like factory, I get better AM reception on my radio. I had lost a lot of it when I tinted my rear window. I would say I'm 90% of what it was without the tint. Just a side bonus.

There is a special tint for windows with antennas in them. The tint has a different metallic structure. I have installed a sirius in my 350z and put the antenna on the dash closest to the front window and it worked perfect. On the Mag I am going to put it just right behind the small censor on the dash. It will look custom. I don't want it on the outside of the car. I never liked the look of it.

The ant works great under the front dash!! Best of all you can't see it.

You seriously put it under the dash, and you have had no reception problems at all?

It really depends on the type of roads you drive on. If you are surrounded by buildings... this may not work.

But if you drive on farmland... where the tallest structure is only two stories high... it may work.

I ordered my sirius receiver/antennae and install kit today FROM Mopar Super Center. I got a good discount. I'll post pics of my delivery and installation once I get everything.

Cool - also, if there are any double secret probation tricks to removing the nav system FROM the dash, I'd love to hear about that as well...
