I let a guy detail my magnum cause it really needed it he did half today and got out alot of the scratches and stuff and I think it looks great but i dunno really anything about detailing. he was explaining to me about swirl marks and the trouble of getting them out. So i got home and let my aunt know about it and she knew exactly who i was talking about and said he did hers and took the clear coat off and now it looks dull. I mean my car looks fine to me but hes picking it up again tommorrow to finish it and now im freaking out.

If you buff too far, sure. He should know better though.

he only had it for like 3 hours and an hour was getting supplys and money and stuff so i doubt he had time to buff too far.

Oh, if he was using a machine, that's enough time to take the paint off

your aunts car sounds more like he hazed the clear coat rather than removed it, it would have no shine by now had it been removed..fuly oxidized, seems like what he failed to do was go to a least aggresive pad and product after the initial buffing that caused the hazing..

likusing megs #83, it can cause your clear coat to get hazy, cloudy, but remove all ya swirls, but its reccomended to follow #83 with #80, as #80 will restore the clarity back to the clear coat, then u can lock in the shine with a good sealant or carnuba wax...

next time u see him ask him his procedure, products used, and pads, and whether hes using a rotary, or random orbital buffer such as the Porter Cable ...

yeah but only a rotary will and can do that kind of damage so fast...not only that , but a rotary will burn the paint too so look out for areas that the paint appears to look darker now for some reason,if the car is a light color anyway..
