View Full Version : Redline tires on a Magnum

I just received these redlines that I had custom made. Here is a picture of one. They are going to go on my silver RT this week. To me the Magnum is a musclecar and deserves redlines like a musclecar should have. I'm going to be putting them on the stock RT 18" wheels. Any thoughts? Go easy....I'm trying something that I haven't seen anywhere else. I guess I'll have to wait until they go on the car to see how they really end up looking. I'll post more pictures soon.

Hey...I like it. I like when you "think outside the box".
Get some pictures up when you got 'em on!
Are you selling the orginal tires?

I think I'll keep the original tires for now in case I decide to wear them down on purpose.
DMAG.....Now it will be easier to spot my Magnum around the Scarsdale area. If you see me say hello.
Absolutely! There will be no mistaking your car now! As for me, look for the prematurely balding 30-something year old driving an old Grand Cherokee or a new Sonata. ;)
I thought I saw you a week or two back up by Greenburgh cinema.

Ok you do know that balding in your thrities isn't premature right? I started loosing my hair at 14, but it slowed down when I hit my mid 20's so most of my late 20's friends have caught up with me. :)
Yeah...I started in my early twentie's....its slowed down a bit. (thankfully!) ;)

I think they will stand out against the color of you car and will look pretty good!

Thanks. If I don't like the way they look I can always just flip them around to the other side, so no big deal. I think they would look good on most colors but I will soon find out. Curious to see what others think. Thanks.
i think it's a great homage to the originals, very fitting.. my opinion is: who cares what other people might think, those that know what redlines are will 'get it', and that's what it's all about!
if you're able to post the info on where you got them, i'm sure you might find some others interested, myself included!

Here are some pics of the redline tires installed on my RT. Honestly, I'm not sure if I like them as much as I thought that I would. I've decided to try them out for a month or two and if I'm still not crazy about them, they will probably get turned around to the original side for the winter and then 22's will go on for next summer. I will post a couple of pics in better lighting tomorrow. Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

I think they look good. Makes you do a double take when you see them. Not something you see on many cars.

I have never seen redstripe tires. How about adding some more subtle red accents -
Red Calipers
Red pinstripes
Red Suede or Alcantara Suede seat inserts
Just a thought!

I have always loved redline tires on 60's muscle cars. I appreciate the thoughts on the red accents but I think its more of an "either or" situation. I'm considering pinstriping the car but it might be too much. I want to keep the changes subtle, so if I lose the tires it will get striped. I was considering white inserts on the seats against the light graystone leather, again not to be too overpowering.

I like them Blake. Besides, how else will I recognize you if you were to get rid of them? ;)

If someone could please do the photo shop thing to an Inferno Red R/T with the redlines I too would appreciate it. If you decide you don't like the redlines have you considerd selling them or trading someone for an original set? Where were these made for you and if you don't mind me asking what's the cost of this?
Now I am picturing 20" American Racing Torque Thrust wheels (original finish, unpolished), redlines, and a shaker hood setup. Anyone able to photoshop all that in Inferno Red???

I bought those tires FROM a company called Diamond Back Classics. Try this link and ask for Richard.
http://www.dbtires.com/
He is a big Magnum fan and would love to get one for himself. This is the 3rd set of tires that I've bought FROM this company and am really pleased. They can make any color or size sidewall that you can think of on any tire that is currently available in any size. I am not affiliated with this company but I have their redlines on my 1967 442, redlines on the Magnum, and a dual band whitewall on my 1977 Lincoln that is an exact match of the originals in the brochure at that time. I can post any pictures if anyone is interested.
As far as the tires on the Magnum, they are the exact original Continentals in the original size as stock. They bought the tires and it costs aprroximately $100 per tire to put whatever you want on the sidewall. They advertise in all the muscle car magazines.
And finally, yes, I may decide to sell them soon. I still haven't decided if I "love" them just yet but I change my mind everyday.

I have just been educated about redline tires by reading this thread. I did not know muscle cars of the old era had those redlines on their tires :D
Looking at the pictures, it's a nice and subtle touch. If I had not known it was a reference to the redlines tires of the past, I would have thought the visual impression is similar to the paint jobs some people are doing on their brake calipers, it attracts the eyes.
It might be better on an Inferno Red if the color of the redline is matching exactly the one on the car. Then you would get perfect "harmony of colors".
i'm trying to find a picture somewhere of redlines on a charger or something, but i'm failing at the google image search.. :(
we're not crazy, they actually did have them! :)
AHA! here are some on a '67:

They were Uniroyal redline Tigerpaw tires. 1st ones I saw were on a '64 442.

I don't know if I would have them on my Magnum. (I guess I should get mine first)
However, Red Calipers would look tough! With or with out the red striped tires.

I think they look pretty sharp, and I bet they'd really go well on a Black Magnum - maybe with red calipers too.

WOW!!! Great work Monkey!
I really like the way that tire/wheel combo looks. That is almost exactly what I've had in mind for my Magnum (when I get it).
The only other minor changes I plan/hope to make:
Match the rear window tint on the front windows.
Shaker portion of the hood in black.
Black powder-coated front grill (or swap with an SXT).
Black tint the headlight covers (and taillights).
Either shave the entire car, or get all of the chrome powder-coated black.

This wheel is by KMC and is called SS. It looks very similar to the old Torque Thrusts in Monkey's chop IMO.

That is some amazing work Monkey! I am dying to SHOW my wife the shaker hood and wheels. I have the Magnesium R/T, and was dreaming of a shaker hood. Now if Todd can come up with the big brakes......
Once again great job. I hope you do that for a living, not just a hobby!

The company that I bought my redline tires from, just redesigned their website. If you scroll down on the following link they put a picture of my Magnum on the homepage. The pictures aren't that clear and they cut the background out of my original photo but I think it's cool to see a Magnum on their site anyway. If anyone is interested, CHECK it out:
http://www.widewhitewalltires.com/
bigwheels.net is the shiznat... They actually let you specify the size instead of searching by vehicle... They have some nice 18x8's in 48mm offset... purdy close to the 55? offset for AWD... is that close enough to work?

you just inspired me....i think it would look much better with the black steel wheel and the chrome lugnuts tho.....keep it in line with the hemi/tracpac/6 pack/440 cars of the day. I'm gonna have to start pricing that out, getting time for new tires and wheels anyway.

The first thing I did to my 442 when I bought it was to put the above wheel/tire setup on it for the reasons you mentioned.
