****!!!
I got in an accident a few minutes ago. I wanted some KFC so I went to see if they were open, of course they weren't so I was cruising back home and I was gonna get McDonalds or Wendy's. So went a back way to McD's and decided Id rather get some Wendy's. Well I left the parking lot and went through the Best Buy parking lot to go out the other side of the place and cross the street to wendy's. So as Im cruising across the dark parking lot of Best Buy, I am going to turn the corner and a black geo metro or toyota corolla (not sure which one) was coming and I didnt see him or he didnt see me (They might have been High) and I kinda ran over his front end with my car.
They didnt want to call the cops, and I kinda wanted to just b/c Ive never done anything like this. But we didnt call the cops, and I honestly dont know if it was his fault for mine, but I thought it was mine at first, now Im not sure.
My car isnt bad, but it did mess up the front end with scratches and the wheel well is completely trashed, my door opens into my fender and makes a little noise. And I have to drive with my steering wheel to the right to go straight. I dont know what to do, my car is only 3 months old.
What do I do about the guy I hit, he has my insurance info and I gave him my name and number, he claims he didnt have his insurance, but I got his name and number.
I cant ****in believe this just happened.
Dude. Sorry to hear that man. To lighten your mood (hopefully) I told you in chat NOT to go eat that nasty food lol. I come back and look what I read.....a tragedy!!! Oh well, its only metal and you can fix it. I would of called the cops personally just because thats what I did for the 2 accidents I had about 4-5 years ago (NOT in my 300, knock on wood) Hope all goes well man!!!

First off if anyone ever gets into and accident with me and they have no insurance, I'm calling the police and I would hope they would take the car, or at least the plates.
I would go back and take some photos of the scene tonight. look at the signs and striping of the lot, the lighting etc. document everything now as they may change anything at any time on private property.
Second make sure you are not hurt.
I hope you and your baby will both be whole again soon
take care,

Call your local PD and see if you can come in and make a desk report in the morning. It happened on private property, so it's your call.
Good Luck!

His car is still at the best buy, should I have a police officer meet me there to run the plates or what not?

NEVER leave an accident scene without seeing and recording their driver's licence details!
If like most people you have/had a mobile phone with a camera, take pics of the crash scene STRAIGHT AWAY with the two cars still "connected" so to speak, from every angle including from your line of approach and his/her line of approach.
Contact the other guy ASAP to find out what his stance is going to be: is he paying, are you paying, are you going through your insurance, is there an injury suit pending on his side? Get his admission of liability and his remedial actions in writing or recorded on the phone (use your answering machine, dictaphone or mobile phone recording capabilities) ASAP.
If you've admitted liability then reverse the above: get him to agree that the damage is limited only to the car (no personal injury suit) that he will get three quotes, that you will have the choice of repairer (including one you may select) and finalise a payment in full amount ASAP.
Good luck Spit!

Sorry to hear this!
I have gone down the path of "no fault; you fix yours and I'll fix mine" before, but I always ahd all of the other guys info. We just took care of it off the record, and the insurance companies were unaware.
If you really think it was your fault, and you think the guy is gonna contact your insurance to be paid for his damage, then get down there with a cop to get the info.
But
If he doesn't have insurance, and is unsure whose fault it is, it is unlikely he will call the cops or contact your insurance company, but you still need his info so you can always keep in touch.
When you get the police involved, there WILL be a ticket written, maybe to both parties. If the damage is minimal, it is sometimes better to settle it between the owners.
It is only bent sheetmetal! I know you feel sick right now (not in a DUBSTER way) but it is just a bent piece of steel!

Most insurance companies won't do anything until a police report has been filed. You should get a hold of the cops and make a report asap! Also, have your insurance company call the other driver and see if he has insurance. If he does not have insurance, have him cited. One more note: Out here in Cali, you have 1 whole year from the time of the accident to file for injury claims. It might be the same over there. If the accident was his fault, make NO statements or sign any papers about your physical condition.

Well its 3:45 am and I just got back home, I had the officers meet me out there.
Heres where I get sick to my stomach, I talked to D's300C who was awesome and I owe him a bunch for walking me through what to do on the phone. He told me to drive to the local PD and get things rolling on this, well I took my car outta the garage. And on the way home it was screeching real bad and smoke would come out form my wheel well. Well I had to keep the steering wheel turned to the right just to drive straight. So as Im driving out of my neighborhood, I hear this grinding noise of something that is stopping me from going forward. I get out and dont see anything, then I go and I hear it feel it again, so as Im talking D's I go to turn around at a light and head back home, every time I step on teh brakes the car screeches and shakes and smoke comes out of the wheel well. Well I get to my driveway and I cant get in the driveway, something is preventing me from going up the lip to get in. I get out look under my car, and there is some metal rod with a big ring on the end that is broken off my car and hanging towards the ground. So I had to back my car into the driveway the best I could, I coulc barely even back it in, let alone move it forward to adjust its angle. I have no clue what it is, but lets just say my car is very bad.
But then I borrow a car and go meet the cops at the Best Buy, well on the phone I get transfered all over and then finally with Denver, they come and it isn't their district, and the cop was a cock sucker! So he calls Lakewood for me, they call me and get my info on the phone, then the cop shows up, he was younger and just a cooler guy. Hes getting my story, gets my info then runs the plates on the Geo Prizm. Then a lady cop comes up and I hear them talking and he is trying to help me in every way he can, I hear her tell him that they cant get the other guy on a DUI or for leaving the scene or a hit and run, and I understand why they cant, thats not even the reason I went back. The car is registered under his fathers name, and it is insured so the computer says. They cant even write it up though b/c it was on private property, but it is documented, if I need anything. Then I talked with them and they told me what I could do for this and that. They were both very nice.
So now Im here back at home, I looked at my car, and it makes me sick. Its 3 months old, and Ill probably be without it for a month. I dont know if it will be as good as new or what, Ive never gone through this. Any and all experience with this would be great.

Damn....that sucks Spittin !! Glad you got it somewhat worked out....sorry it happened . It should be as good as new (accept nothing less...someone's insurance is paying ) ....but select a really good shop ...ask around ....check their reputation . Some dealers have a full body shop ......ask around...travel if necessary ....as a Chrysler dealer would be my first choice . Only OEM parts . Good luck man .....and beat the rental like a red-headed stepchild !! Denver !!!!

There are minimum requirements of lighting in all public areas, often times owners of private parking lots do not properly maintain the lights to achieve the required lumens per square foot (http://www.led.net/pages/tech4.htm)
a picture could show many important items such as any lights that were not functioning, the quality of their stripping, the placement of their signs.
On private property it may not be you or the other driver that will be held responsible but rather the property owners and the people they hired to engineer and maintain the "dark best buy parking lot" you spoke of.
Again, I hope you are well, and may your ride be returned to it's proper condition to your satisfaction soon.
take care,

spittin, that sucks. i got my car back from the body shop just last friday...two weeks for a stinking bumper, paint, clear.
her in tx, cops don't really do anything (tickets etc.) on private property. when my car was bumped, the guy didn't have his insurance card on him. we were on a public street, so i immediately called the police. i was not going to let this guy get away without a ticket, and documentation. he said he had insurance and was scrambling on the phone to get someone to his house to give him the policy number and agent's name. i was skeptical at first because he didn't even know who he had coverage with (doesn't everyone know who has their coverage ???).
come to find out, he had some warrants out for his arrest, so the cops cuffed him and stuck him in the car. before doing that he did give me his insurance information, and i called the company to verify it was in force.
next time, just stay in with the ramen.
all will work out....you car will be as good as new, just be sure to stay on top of the shop, stop by, call every couple days, check the progress. that way you can catch things. i had them redo my bumper three times before it was perfect.

For future reference: Either call the cops, or get some good info from the other driver. By good info, I mean write down the plate number, the vehicle ID number, and ask to see the driver's license and write down that number. You'd be amazed at how many people in fender-benders where cops are NOT called end up giving fake names, addresses, phone numbers, and insurance info. You only figure this out after they've left the scene and you're screwed.

Sad to hear. Looks like a control arm.
The main reason to call the cops when an accident occurs is this...they determine whose fault it is. You might be sitting there thinking its your fault and would be willing to pay for his damages, however, what if it was his fault? I have been in several accidents and have always had the cops called. They are an unbiased mediator.
Good Luck. Keep us informed.

Ya, I learned my lesson. My Insurance guy said I definitely did the right thing by calling the cops and having them come out.
Sorry to hear about that bro. I wonder if he was driving a stolen car and that's why he did'nt want the cops to get involved.
I thought something was fishy when he told me he didnt have any info or anything on him and he was insisting we not call the cops. The cops did run the car for me, it is registered to his dad, and it is insured. So thats good. Mark my insurance guy called the house and talked to the father and got their insurance info from him this morning.

Well, it happened. One thing to take away from it is ALWAYS, ALWAYS (even if it's your fault):
1) immediately get contact info from any witnesses. (Statements on the spot if they're willing).
2) call the cops.
3) call your insurance rep.
4) get other party's information. contact and insurance
Even if on private property the cops will often take a report. At least you have a pair of professional eyes that saw the carnage, license plates, and if anyone appeared to be injured.
Things that come up: they lied about contact info, insurance, etc. You'll get into situations where they say "no problem, doesn't appear to be much damage, I'm late for work, We'll get in touch and talk about getting it fixed... Couple days later you get a call from their insurance adjuster and they're claiming injuries, entirely your fault, etc. Go by the book, don't be timid. best way.

The car can be turned back into tip top shape for you with the right place fixing it. I would suggest the dealer since they will use oem parts usually. Hopefully you get their insurance to pay for it so you don't have any deductibles to pay.

damn sorry to hear about the accident, but at leat no body got hurt right? Your lucky you drove home with that much damage . Been in an accident couple month ago, little fender bender sort of, and it sucks but after when it's fixed it'll be good again.
Unless it's a major accident I don't see the point of calling the cops, if both driver have insurance and no ones hurt there's nothing the cops going to do, that's just by opinion. Is it mandatory to call the cops? And never let the other guy write the info down for you, HELL NO, make him/her pull it out (the information) and YOU write it down with all the goodies such as make of car, color, location, time, date etc. will be better if you have a mean to take photo. Carry a pen and paper (helps to have paper :) ) in the car just in case.
In the meantime, drive the hell out of the rental if your renting a car :)

If the other driver does not have or cannot produce insurance, you bet they will show up. If there are no injuries and both parties have info to produce all the LEO's will do is make sure you exchange info. Most of the time you will get a non-investigated accident report that can usually be done over the counter. Either way, the insurance company will want a report.

Give your side of the story, get it recorded, on tape. BUT THINK FIRST
If you were going across a parking lot in a straight direction, I would say you had the right of way. If you were coming from the side of the building, the other car may have had right of way. Even if the police take an accident report, no judgment as to liability will be made, because it happened on private property. But HE has your ins info, he will get the $hit box put back together, all nice & new. Meanwhile you got Squat.

Always, always, always, always......did I say ALWAYS? call the cops in the event of an accident. Even if it is obviously your fault. The insurance company will always insist that a report be filed and it will be much easier to sort things out if the police are involved. Even the price of a ticket is a small price to pay if the "ways get greased" to get your car put back together properly and in a reasonable amount of time. In most states, the police will not issue a ticket unless there is an injury involved....in fact most will tell you that they are not even officially there if it does not involve an injury, they are just "assisting" in filing the proper papers. Good luck.......

All the police will do here is make sure everyone exchanges info, that is if they show up.
