Oaky.... you all aren't going to believe this.

First off, thanks to the many posters who have finally inspired me to remove my mouldings. But I can tell you, I'm as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

A couple of weeks ago, I had my C into the dealership to replace one of the roof mouldings that was coming up, no big deal, and it was covered under warranty. Talking with my Service writer, he pointed out that the moulding on the passenger door was starting to lift, so he ordered a new side piece for it.

He just called to say the part was in and when did I want to bring in the car. So..... I told him I was thinking of taking off the mouldings, and he offered to do it for me AT NO COST! WOOHOO!!!!!

He said Chrysler was going to pay him either way, so bring it on in.

I'll drop off the car Thursday morning and be moulding free by afternoon. I don't even have to break a sweat or open my wallet.

Lithia Dodge of Eugene (Matt) you ROCK!

I hate you. I just took mine off Sunday in a 95 degree, 100% humidity Texas afternoon. Well worth the sweat. The car looks fine. You will love it. Know I just worry about the door dings.

Where's the love man????? Hey, it's only 102 here today and supposed to hotter tomorrow, so I'm really glad they're doing it.

Of course the first door ding I get, I'll be screaming out a rant of expletives that would embarrass a sailor.

My dealer removed mine at no cost. As far as dings, park in the furthest spot at any store and do a little extra walking. Almost 2 years and not a single ding!

thats what I do. And when Im really far, and no one else near me, I make sure that my car is in all four spots near me, just to make sure no one DOES park next to me.

So the mouldings are off, and much to my relief the paint under them was fine. Of course I need to clay it and wax it. So much for watching TV tonight.

I'll get new pics up next week as I'm off for a 3 day golf tournament in Bend.

Yes, FREE is good. Just got back from a golf weekend and she's covered with bugs from the trip.

I'll get her cleaned up and snap some shots on Tuesday. Maybe, just mayber my color matched engine shroud will be done at the body shop and I post those pics as well.

Killing two posts with one pic. It's rained the last couple of days, so no real pics of my CV without the mouldings.......however, here's a pic of my painted shroud cover and it shows a little body without the mouldings or badge.

I don't know how you guys get up the huevos to do this. I would, but I am so scared of a huge dent or something I think they will stay. Besides, I have the nice Touring ones with the chrome strip. It goes with my rear bumper chrome molding and the window chrome. But your ride is super sweet, no doubt.

Door dings ARE my biggest fear, but I'm not afraid to park at the butt end of a parking lot and do a little walking. Removing the moulding was a HUGE step of faith, lovingly supported by my buds here at the forum.

thanks for the compliment, the modding bug has definitely bit my butt and my wallet.

Hi guys I just removed my mouldings and found the paint bubbled on one door. Looks like tiny little paint bubbles running about 2.5 ft. Is this a common problem? How many other people have found this?. Is this a warranty issue?
Thanks guys.

Not sticking them back on, no way. Looks too smoooooooth with them off.
3 doors just fine, no issue, 1 door had bubbles under the moulding about 60% of the door length.

The door dings I did get, were above the mouldings anyways. When I took them off, they were filled with dust and dirt,,, better off than on.
Thanks,,,,
Anyone else?

ok I did some searching on here and turns out most dealers wont cover the damage. There is much debate as to if they should or not. search for "paint bubbles" and you will find lots of threads.

nice job with the moldings! I had the body guy take mine off when he fixed a door dig last winter. he had to take one off for paint so I asked him to take them all off and he was cool with it. FREE!

Since I wanked the moldings I just park like I don't know how. Dewm there are posts from last summer of people with bad paint when they removed the moldings. There was a member with a yellow Daytona that found out after pulling moldings off 3 doors he found the 4th wasn't so great. Actually here is the link http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=38872

I agree, it looks much much better. I don't know what I would do if I took mine off and the paint was bubbled underneath.

Oh, and the reason the dealership will not cover fixing it is because that is not considered a warrantyable item - you took them off, therefore you "modified" the vehicle, and they are not responsible for it. Not that I am standing up for them - I had a rock chip the paint and the primer (crappy primer) - but when they produce these cars, the moldings are part of the car - they do not inspect underneath them. Most likely the damage is done when the factory puts them on. The paint may not be 100% cured before they slap them on - causing problems.

I had the same concerns when I took the molding off my Magnum, but really, every car I've ever had, the door moulding never stopped my car from getting a door ding. Some doors like SUV's and Pickups are high enough that they will dent your door above the molding anyways. The best prevention is to park way out in the parking lots.
