View Full Version : All I want for my Magnum is an "Air Grabber" Hood.

Seen what few hoods are out there for the Magnum. Shaker is cool, but I think it looks alittle out of place on a Magnum. Some of the hoods with "Scoops" look good also, but dont appeal to my "Retro" side.
Then I got to thinking, "Air Grabber." Started doing some searching on the old net, Nada. Why does the Magnum get shafted when it comes to Hoods in the aftermarket.
Looks like I am going to have to start buying "Grabber" Parts of Ebay to make my own "Air Grabber" Magnum Hood.
Unless someone here can suggest a website that sells a Magnum
Air Grabber Hood.

It's probably more possible than you think...?

Go to this website - www.keystonerestyling.com (http://www.keystonerestyling.com)
Go to the black bar at the top and put your mouse pointer over "Good Hoods". Scroll down to "Dodge Trucks" and click on it. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the number "3" (page 3). It is the last truck shown - Air Grabber Hood Scoop on the way soon. You probably can get the parts from them directly.
I had a 1970 GTX 440 4-speed when I was 19 years old (back in the 80's). It had an Air Grabber Hood on it and I can tell you I won a few races just raising that hood scoop up and not even having to actually race. That thing always made people do a double take. Unfortunately I sold that vehicle just before going into the Air Force at 21. Who knew it would be worth so much today.
Good luck.

If you're looking for a true retro Air grabber then you might be dissapointed. Try photoshopping one to see what I mean, it would be a total clash in design and interrupt the flow of the Mag's look.

I had thoughts and ideas regarding an air grabber hood!
To fabracate myself my plans were as follows
1 intrepid bulge one headlight door (inverted) from a 1978 Ney yorker
Put the frame of the headlight door into the bulge and add hinges to the rear of the door, fab some sides and install a power seat motor to make it reliable and voila!

I have no photoshop skills.
However, I did see a "Air Grabber" on a Charger and it looked decent. However, it was none functional. I think a functional "Grabber" would look good, it can be lowered or raised which I dont think would hurt the "flow" of the maggie's lines.
I dont know, it just seems to me that the few hood choices we maggie owners have are lacking.

I tend to agree with you on the lack of choices. Personally, I still don't see
why no one has tried a cowl induction hood for the Magnum yet.

It's a GoodHood. Fuctional(ish) twin scoop hood.

Like that idea myself, but the only real way to get something like this done, and be functional, is you would probably have to send the whole car to a speciality shop that custom fabricates for cars.

A cowl hood on a magnum would look devastating!!
I have seen one and I can tell you it totally ads to the design and lines of the car!

How could an air grabber be non functional?
If it didn't pop up it wouldn't be an air grabber it would be a cowl hood design which i think is very GM.

naw, it was an "Air Grabber" was for sale on Ebay. In the discription the owner said it was "non-functional" so I think it was just tacked on, or maybe it didnt open and close. Dont know.

All the parts for an original '70-'72 Air Grabber are available as reproductions now, but I don't think it will work on a magnum because the hood is not flat on the top, and there's that bodyline in the center of the hood.
I'm a '70 Plymouth B body guy, and even I didn't put an air grabber on my convertible! (I didn't think it would work when switching to EFI in the future)
