Proper Way To Lower Your Vehicle...

So me and my buddy with a 03 toyota corrola type s blah blah blah... were talkin about lowering cars.. I say that if you are going to lower a car... just buying lowering springs/coilovers is wrong because you should also upgrade the shocks, struts, a-arms for the camber kit.. etc. etc... .He said that since he is only lowering his car 1.5 inches none of these are necessary because he's not "slamming it"....

if you aren't "slamming" your car.. do you need to upgrade the WHOLE suspension? if you get airbags on your car... should you? what's the proper way to lower... or while we're at it... raise.. your car?

because I trust my people here at the LXforum.. :thumbs_u:

Coilovers ARE springs and shocks, so if you go that route, you only need a camber kit if the camber afterward is too far out for you to live with. Shouldn't involve a whole new control arm (in most cases). But the coilovers are all there is to it.

I lowered mine with Eibach ProKit springs and changed nothing else, and 39,000 miles later it still rides nice-n-tight and doesn't lean a whole lot on the corners nor does it oscillate when going over bumps.

I may not have any shocks left, but I can't tell so to me, it's all good.

not if you get the cheap ones... just the lil spring type for hondas n such that cost 70 bucks.... then your car bounces all over hell...

I think a camber kit is a good idea on any lowered car.

Usually when a car is lowered the camber becomes negative as you can see examples everyday on most lowered cars on the street.

Personally I couldn't stand the off center camber so I did what I had to do to fix it on my SRT8 when it was lowered to at least get it back to close to zero or zero.

Too bad tho I had to get new Front A-Arms and camber bushings for the rear. I must say it was kinda of a pain but all fixed now with all the troubles I went thru.

For me, I went coilovers. It just made sense. I will be getting a front and rear camber kit next month to solve vibrations at 60mph. After road force balancing and alignment - I've still got an ever so slight vibration. Firestone showed me how much my alignment was out (and not correctable w/o a camber kit) that I'm next to positive the super neg camber is my problem. We shall see...

In most cases though, camber kit not required/necessary. But yea, my KWs are slammed.

I added the Pro-Kit alone and everything rides perfect with the nice drop I was looking for. But my stock shocks will be done within a couple years or so.

I went KW V2 but did not bottom them out. Rides real nice still and I don't think I will require a camber kit.
