I've had hit or miss luck with shops getting low profile tires on and off big diameter wheels without damaging the wheels. I've heard about the latest and greatest Hunter tire machines that never touch the wheel; and, seen techs ding/scratch wheels using them.

So, I was bummed when my right rear tire was losing ~5 psi a week; especially when I took the wheel off and located a nail in the tread. I'm also not crazy about having no spare, and only tire goop -- the goop can't be a good thing in the wheel/tire long term; and the tire must still be dismounted and patched. (MSRT -- no spare; no jack; only a compressor and tire goop).

I've had some experience with tire repair kits (using ropes of rubber that are fished through the hole in the tire, etc.). These repairs have held (short term, at least); but they still require dismounting the tire, and patching it from the inside (so the widest portion of the "patch" can to seal against the inside of the tire).

I recently read about a device that inserts mushroom shaped plugs into the tire (the broad bottom of the the head seals against the tire). Not quite a tire shop dismount/patch -- but close; no risk of having the wheel damaged; and, will work for roadside repairs with the factory supplied air compressor assuming I keep a breaker bar, socket, and jack in the car (the tire will almost certainly require removal) -- any suggestions regarding a jack (bottle jack; scissor jack etc.)?

Check out the Tire Plugger (www.stopngo.com (http://www.stopngo.com)). After a week later, I haven't lost any psi from the plugged tire with all types of driving. This may be a winner.
