I read some where that others have put 255/55's on thier stock 18 rims. So I went down to buy some and was told that I should not put on the 255/55's and should stick with the original size or the 255/45. Am I wrong?
I told the salesguy that I wanted to go as wide as I could with the stock 18 rims and he said that I should put 20's.

255/55's will work. Had them on my car for over a year.....several people have. I was running the BFG KDW's.

The guy said that the tires would bubble out and raise the car. Is this true?

Go somewhere else to avoid his BS, get your tires online, and get them mounted at a flat tire repair place, only cost me $60 to mount and balance my 4 Toyo Proxes ST's

Bubble out, now there's a tech term.
The tread is only 10mm wider than stock. That's only about 3/16" on each side of the rim.

That's still only 15mm or 3/5" on either side so you're still fine.

The 255x55x18 will fit just fine.
Go with the BFG's or Toyo's.

I am running 255/55/18 GY Response Edge's on my stock wheel; no problems except I did have to put 3mm spacers from "Racing Labs" on the front.

Hi Joe,
I sent you a PM as well.
Can you comment on the PRoxes S/T? These are labelled as "Sport Truck" tires. While I'm not concerned about the label, per se, I'm interested in knowing your impressions in a variety of driving conditions.
As you discovered, 255/50-18 are PLUS ZERO size to the OE 235/55-18. But, there are precious few tires made in this size that I'm willining to spend the $$$ . On the spend factor, I'm not a fan of Kuhmo, based on the good advice from a couple of people that I know and trust.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Glenn

I'm running the Hankook Ventus ST in 255's which is designed for sport trucks due to the XL load rating. No problems other than the car gets a little nervous or twitchy with higher air pressures. Now at 32psi the car is comfortable and stable.

My 255-55/18 BFG KDW2's fit just fine, ride real nice and have survived three times the punishment that destroyed the conti's that came on it.
I'll buy another set when I need to.
Find another tire-place too, that guy appears to suffer from a rectal-cranial inversion...

Has anyone ever heard or used FALKEN tires. I just spoke to the guy at Big O Tires and he said that this brand has been around for 25 yrs. He also was concerend about the ride since it is a sport light truck tire. He said that I would get a stiffer ride.

I also have the 255/55 x 18 on my SXT. I have the front lowered 2" and still no problems.
I am planning on going with 245/50 x 18 on the next set of tires, only because my poor 3.5 really doesn't need that much tire to get traction.

I got the FALKENS (255/55/18) at SEARS -- great price (if I recall $115), and they're wearing well on the RT. :thumbs_u:

Thanks kchin, but I have a date with Big O Tires today. They will be installing the new Falkens at $125.00 each.
