View Full Version : Anyone from Montreal?

Hey,

Just wondering if there's anyone here from Montreal... I know there are a few of us "Northerners" on this forum.

Our roads are so bad here! I'm thinking of going for 20" wheels as soon as I get the car, but our potholes are so big I'm not sure if it's worth it. I may just stick to factory 18"s. Any opinions/advice?

I'm new to the forum and glad to be here! Awesome community!

Welcome aboard.

As far as 20 are concerned you shouldnt have too much of a problem but if you go with a larger rim and a smaller sidewall on the tire thats when you run the risk of rim damage. But its a game you have to be willing to play. Rim damage is sometime unavoidable.

There are a few members from the Quebec area.

There are a few Montreallers on the boards. If I remember right, they're having a little get together sometime soon....OK, it's a large get together. Netsrac is the King in Montreal. He's the one that is always getting people together up there.

Sadly, I'm not from Montreal, although my mother is. I'm hoping to trek back up there sometime soon, but that won't happen this year.

Welcome to the boards, and enjoy the people here. There are a lot of smart people here that have tried a lot of different and unique mods. I'm sure that if you're thinking about doing something to your car, someone on here has already tried it and can tell you what works and what doesn't work.

Welcome Cavalier

I live out in Pierrefonds, what part of Montreal are you from?

As far as 20" wheels go, they are not too much of a problem, I run them and no problems so far, but you still have to look out for large potholes.

My rims are fullface (almost solid), so they can take a pothole or two, but I don't like to chance it. I run a 40 profile, which is the lowest I will go.

I would not suggest a 22", you would only be asking for trouble.

Thanks a lot for your responses. So I shouldn't "worry" too much about 20s... Sounds good. Now I can just worry from a budget standpoint.

Valcourt? Capitale Mondiale de la Motoneige! ;)

Just North of Montreal here. Riding on factory wheels (incl. base R/T wheels for the winter) but I think (as Netsrac) implied that it depends on the wheel design and manufacturer. Some manufacturers cheapen their products versus others. That being said, I see plenty of cars with large wheels around here, there isn't an epidemic of wheel shops getting overloaded with broken wheels. :)

You get what you pay for. (well, except for when it comes to the MTQ and SAAQ, of course).

Well, Carsten (Netsrac) did a Montreal Meet & Greet the last 2 years, but he's kind of busy this year so it won't happen. Some guys are planning one in Toronto I think....We can fix something for us Montrealers though...

Well.....we could do something on Mount-Royal or Angrignon park. I went to both, but love the park better. There's bbq's on the spot and enough space for everybody. They only thing that sucks is the parking isn't done so it's all gravel and there's some holes, but I can manage to drive around in it going very slow and so did my friend with his intrepid dropped 2 inches so.....I'll have to go check it out to see if they fixed that yet...

Thanks,

FYI...

So without further ado, here are the coordinates of 'The Water Drum'. The Water Drum is the restaurant where we will be meeting for breakfast. Why do I have GPS info here? Well, because like the U2 song...this is where the streets have no name! Actually, some of them have names but there are no signs displaying this nor are those numbers or 'civic addresses. So, I will suggest that we meet at the gas station nearest to the Mercier Bridge located on the 132 called Kahnawake Gas and Grocery. Heading west on the 132, it is located on the right hand side after a big blue steel building at the last light before you would be going on the Mercier Bridge. If you are coming from Montreal, head over the Mercier Bridge and stay left...This would have you travelling East headed toward Saint-Constant/Delson/Candiac... Off the bridge, you will come to a first traffic light (Welcome to the Reserve!). Turn left at those lights and then turn right into the gas station I was speaking of earlier...pull in to the parking lot.

Let me know if you want to meet at that gas station before heading to the restaurant.
If you have any questions, please post them here.

Greetings and welcome to the forum. I have been thinking the same thing (18 or 20?)and have decided to bite the bullet and get a set of 20's in the spring. I'll keep the stock 18's for my winter boots. Now the real fun starts, what width rim and how big a tire should I get but at least I have 12 eeks to decide.
