Thanks FnkyChkn for all your help!

FnkyChkn, has helped a great deal of us in his quest to be a better tech. Be it just explaining how something works, or helping to troubleshoot a problem for a member frustrated with an issue on their LX, Pete is so widely recognised for his ability and desire to help us out that threads even get posted with "FnkyChkn" in the title. He doesn't even have an LX, but does have one of the predecessor vehicles built at the very same plant of the LX.

Many of us have been fortunate enough to meet Pete in person and discovered what a truly great guy he is.

Seeing all the help, many of us have wanted to give something back as a token of our appreciation. A couple of times we tried, but Pete asked us to stop, as he was learning as well, while helping and didn't think it was necessary.

Well, some of us just won't take no for an answer, it seems...

So we went underground...

Still wanting to put together a collection for Pete, we started a little forum (Thanks to Bandit for pointing me to proboards) and created "ChknPrts" to have a place to discuss what to give Pete in return.

http://chknprts.proboards91.com

Which also gave us a place to link to a Paypal Donation page, out of sight from Pete!

http://www.geocities.com/tokenrt/jaak/FnkyChknDonation.html

The next challenge was, how do we let people know about this site? We couldn't just post it! Token had the fabulous idea of a book to pass around to write and sign to thank our FnkyChkn for the help he gives us. And then we'd contact everyone we could that had signed it or expressed an interest in signing it and let them know about ChknPrts.

Well, it worked out well, as at Carsten's Montreal Meet, Token and I were delighted to present Pete not only with the book, but the reason for it...

FnkyChkn is going on the SRT Track Experience!

Click for a larger picture!

Thanks to the generousity of LXForums members, not only do we get to thank him and give something back, but he'll get to drive many SRTs not just LX's and learn even more about these great LX cars!

Token (right) gave Pete the book, and jaak (left) gave him a windshield sticker for the SRT TRACK EXPERIENCE. I was honoured to explain how so many members here at LXForums were compelled to give and as a result, Pete can not only go to the event, but all expenses paid.

I tell you, I've never seen a more excited FnkyChkn!!!!
:banana::banana:

Since we've presented this to Fnky we've found that we missed a number of people that would have loved to have known, and didn't find out until recently. Token and I did our best to tell everyone we could, but obviously missed a number of people. As a result, I'm keeping the link open in case you still want to give a little back to Pete for this.

Many thanks to Token for this, as it never would have happened without him. Great friends helping great friends. Fantastic!

Pete, it's been said in the book, it's been said in the forum, by many people. Thanks again for all you do for us. It's great to know you, it great that you make LXForums yet another reason to be a favourite place for all of us to spend time.

This is well deserved and we're all looking forward to working with you to get to the track!!! :not_worth

WOW how cool are you guys!! I've been on this forum for a little over a month and one of the first things I noticed was what a tremendous asset all three of you are to this forum and it's members! I've learned more from FnkyChkn, jaak and Token posts than I could have ever hoped to gleen out of shop manuals, dealer mechanics, my neighbor, etc.... saved me lots of $$$ and aggrevation!
Jim you have helped me personally and I can't thank you enough! I will be posting pics next week that will attest to that!
All three of you are class acts indeed...CONGRATS Pete! You deserve more!!

Well said jaak, but I've come to expect that.

There is absolutely no doubt that Pete deserved this, for all that he has done to help everyone on LXForums.com.

I am truly privileged to call him my friend.

I actually went from Montréal to Ottawa yesterday, because I had to work there today, and I no sooner get into town than my cell phone rings. It's no one else but the fnky chkn himself, inviting me for dinner at his house with the rest of the chicken clan. (Actually we had Chicken for dinner, but I think it was one of those relatives that no one likes LOL)

Thank you again Pete, for your wonderful hospitality.

I have made some great lifelong friends here, jaak, hemiwagn, Hemi31, fnky chkn, and the list goes on and on. :huddle:

It felt really good doing something for such a great guy!

Even though Pete and jaak were about to burst into tears during the presentation, you could feel the love.

Actually, Pete told me over dinner, that he was just trying NOT to pass out on Carsten's lawn.

Lastly, thanks to all of you who made this happen for one awesome guy. Your donations, and heartfelt messages in the Fnky Guestbook just go to show that there are great people in this world.

I am very happy, and extremely proud to be among some of the best, right here.

It was a pleasure to witness such an event for a great guy. Even if his choice of hockey teams is questionable. . Jim and Dave you are to be commended for your efforts. Teresa took these pics of the presentation so I made this for you all. What a great forum.

I had what I thought was a VIN number problem and was told to contact Pete (fnkychkn) who did some research for me without knowing me from Adam. Just recently, I have a problem with one of my headlights and it just dawmed on me, "Hey, PM Pete to see if he could help." and sure enough, Pete sends me a headlight removal schematic and gives me another member to PM if I need additonal help. Pete, I have said it a few times in my PMs to you but you can never say thanks enough to someone who helps you in your time of need.
Thanks again Pete and you deserve it.

I am very happy that we used my event as a place to present this well deserved award to Pete.

When Pete arrived (one of the first) Saturday morning, he parked his "mule" out on the street. I told him that he is the guest of honor and to park it in the guest of honor parking spot, and Bigjim parked his mule next to it, so it would not feel lonely.

I met Pete's son as well, who seems to be a great kid, and I told him how proud his dad was of him.

I have always admired and liked Pete and everything he has given to this forum, I couldn't think of a more deserving person.

i am anxiously looking forward to this event and hope i can share the experience with as many of you as i can.

All I can say is, what a neat gesture and what a great idea. Thank you again Pete for all you have done for members here, I sincerely hope you continue to consider it time well spent on your part because the rest of us are hopelessly tongue-tied expressing our thanks for all your help here.

I am slightly disappointed in one respect, I volunteered and posted many times that I would be happy to take the book around TX to drag strips and M&G's and get the large contingency of Texans here to sign the book. (We do have our own Regional Forum after all). I was never even graced with a reply to the effect that it was either impossible due to time constraints nor that I would be contacted as to when TX would receive the treasured tome. I am in no way trying to toss sour grapes into the mix here because I believe this was a beautiful and inspired project from the start. I'm just a bit saddened that the many fans of Pete here in TX never got the opportunity to sign the book and I feel I must take the blame for that since I am not necessarily the "voice of TX" nor any kind of popularity contest winner. I just wish some of our more illustrious (and mod-crazy) Texans had echoed my repeated requests so that we too could have expressed our appreciation for all Pete has done.

Pete, if you'd like, you are welcome to keep the ball rolling and send the book out to the "nether regions" yourself so that we may continue to embellish the pages of this noble book with the accolades you so richly deserve.

And drive them friggin' SRT's like ya stole 'em, boy!!!!

Wow, I don't know what happened there, as I wasn't doing the book... I'm sure Token can answer that for you. Guaranteed, there was no intent to avoid you as Dave's just not like that at all. I do recall the book was at times very busy and at times in limbo being tracked. I thought it did make it to TX, so that sucks that you missed it.

I think if Pete's interested in letting it go around again, that would be awesome, as there's space in there!

Or you guys can PM Pete with your notes, and they can be pasted in.

Whatever works for Pete!

Now, that's funny... Did you know that Magnumb_SRT and I were also in Team Hammer?

Token and Hemiwagn were in Team Buttercup, which was renamed to Team Greg!

Our group at the breakfast SRT provides...

L to R:
hemiwagn, token, vic (jaak's bro-in-law), magnumb, john (magnumb's bro-in-law), fnky. Missing from this shot is Jaak - he is behind fnky but not visible in the pic.

At the end a limited number of prizes were given,
Fnky won the DRAG RACE COMPETITION!

Yeah, I leaned around the other side, but obviously John Hammer is a better driver than photographer!

I know you'll fix the link but here's the missing pic. (Note the newly applied Pentastar!)

Token seems downright giddy about FULL THROTTLE CHALLENGE (1/16th mile drag strip):

Hemiwagn about to take the Viper for a spin in the ADVANCED DRIVING module. The instructor rides along and gives you pointers about how to navigate the course.

Token about to do the same:

Token with Brian (our group's handler)
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e287/hemiwagn/SRT%20Experience%20Beaver/IMG_0415Medium.jpg

Brian was a great guy, and a hell of a driver.

He kindly invited us to join them for dinner, which we did. The two viper instructors joined us too. Man the laughs and stories at that table made my sides split.

To show once again how these cars transcend being just vehicles, we had dinner at a restaurant that was managed by one of that day's SRT participants.
Then another participant bought us a round of drinks and invited us back to his house to keep partying. Here is a shot of the nut job Canadians in his billiard room:

I don't know why but this vid has a real 'home movie' feel to it. Real hams in that red car. Watch it to the end.
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e287/hemiwagn/SRT%20Experience%20Beaver/th_MVI_0226.jpg (http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e287/hemiwagn/SRT%20Experience%20Beaver/?action=view&current=MVI_0226.flv)

You are not supposed to see the ground through the lower grille on a magnum. Generally the grille is supposed to be attached to the bumper cover...
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e287/hemiwagn/SRT%20Experience%20Beaver/IMG_0418Medium.jpg

But apparently, SRT8 Magnums lose bits when they travel through the grass at high speed....

Ok diff topic:
Magnumb is the guy that buys that "collectible" stuff (my wife calls it something else) on ebay. And he cannot resist a coin-operated claw machine. You know the ones that if you manipulate the claw just right, you can pick up a nice prize...

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e287/hemiwagn/SRT%20Experience%20Beaver/IMG_0479Medium.jpg

like say, in just two tries, a stuffed monkey.

That guy in the red car's an idiot...

Speaking of which, I thought Magnumb_SRT was one for playing the claw. I never get anything on those things... He comes back (almost had the monkey in the try before) and he's describing the tension on the claw! Holy crap Glen, you're the first person I've seen who can actually play that thing!

Not everyone gets to win a Trunk Monkey.

Go do real HPDE with a good vendor. You get to play with your car and you get some real track time on a fun road course !

Hooked On Driving has a 2 day event at NJ Motorsports park $600 for 2 days ( 1 on lighting 1 on thunderbolt ) We rented out Lighting for our rental day and they run the Rolex event on the Thunderbolt track )

Yeah, I want to do a track day for sure... One thing I like about the SRT one was being able to do a four wheel drift in to corner one of Watkin's Glen in an LX that wasn't mine! LOL!!! That guard rail sure got close... Whatever!

But that's a great deal Rob... I'd like to go for a run with Matt one day. It's been a dream of mine since I was a teen to drive Laguna Seca (or whatever it's called now, and I don't really care..)
