View Full Version : New AWD Record??

Well an AWD is really easy to launch, even with a little exrtra power. So here is a couple of timeslips form this morning. I think these are the best times ever posted for an AWD.

http://www.watsoncard.com/magnum/time2.jpg

I had four runs at about the same times as these, and a couple where my experimentation and/or inattention was problematic.

Oh yeah, my last run was against a local Charger SRT 8. I ran a 13.424 and beat his 13.661. I'll bet he is still scratching his head.

It rained so the session was cut short. I still want to do more experimentation, but it seems that about a 1200 RPM load and ESP off with a full automatic run worked the best.

Well I certainly got my money's worth with these mods. Hell yeah!!!

Congratulations Done! Very impressive; no sloppy track required for you to keep up with the SRT's!

Is 'i1' the 60 ft time?

Nice...really nice. What heads/cam did you go with?

Given your traction advantage, I would think nailing that beast from idle would work best. Shave that 60' and you are no doubt close to the 12's.

Congrats Don -- I was so busy trying (unsuccessfully) to perfect my launch I never had a chance to compare notes with you.

That is pretty darn cool -- who says an AWD wagon can't 'surprise' a lot of hot machinery (including SRT8s) on the streets. Pls let us know of any fun kills you manage to execute.

It was great meeting you at Montreal. You have a really nice ride there.

Looks like about 2 mpg improvement. Which puts me in the 22-24 range running at 75-80.

Excellent effort Don :thumbs_u: . How do these times compare to a similarly equipped/modded RT RWD, do you think times are/will be better due to the added traction of the AWD system?.

Good work and times DON:rock: this is the good news I've been waiting for with my AWD.

60ft times & possibly 0 to 60 should be better because of the AWD but overall with similar mods rwd will make a little bit more power and i'm guessing a little bit better 1/4 times.
ps.. just guesses I might be wrong.

I agree. The more power you add to the RWD, the more traction will become an issue. That wont be a problem with the AWD...

Also as this was just installed it will get faster as it learns.Anyone who has gotten a Sidewinder will attest to that.I bet the car is a tenth or so faster just on learning.

Until he gets up to 500+ hp! Although, that would really become a problem with a similarly equiped RWD.

It would be an interesting match to see. There's always the different gearing in the AWD, and the added weight. And, of course, with the variable of driver skills... I'm not sure this issue will ever be resolved!

Probably never really resolved, but maybe at the SE Shindig we can get closer. I can see by the timeslip database that only a handful of 5.7's are quicker and a lot of SRT8's are slower.

That will be interesting to see. But, heck, if you put 2 RWD's, identically equiped, up against each other... one is going to beat the other.

Thanks for being the AWD pioneer here Don. :thumbs_u: I look forward to following how your car develops (with continued learning and such). It should make it easier for those of us pondering this upgrade to decide how we want to proceed.

I checked my timeslips for last year at Napierville. My 60 foot times have dropped from 2.2's to 1.9's. That is a lot of low end improvement. The interesting thing is the smooth take off, no drama, just go go.

Not sure how I missed this but....pretty damn impressive!!!

Any thoughts on running shorter tires (like 26'' or less) on all four corners? Expense aside (hell you could prob go cheap on the tires given the AWD) I would think you could really cut that 60' down getting you real close to the 12's.

Next change will be the B&G Flash or the Diablo tuner.

Your driveway isn't paved right? I can see her getting ready to turn onto the main road when she hits the gas and all four tires light up creating a shower of dirt and gravel scaring the hell out of her.
She then proceeds back into the house and asks, "What did you do?"
in the same tone she uses for the dogs when they have done something they shouldn't have. At which point you shrug your shoulders and give the following expression:roll:.
