View Full Version : Who's had the biggest change in vehicles since getting an LX

I was driving a 91 prelude before i got my Magnum RT. Needless to say the difference in power, ride quality, etc is quite dramatic. Anyone else have a dramatic change in vehicles after becoming an LX owner?

Does going FROM a lifted V10 2500 ram to a car who's top doesn't even come to the bottom of my truck count?

I went FROM a 2000 Land Rover Discovery to a Magnum RT. It's a pretty big change for me.
Just have my 300C on ORDER but will be going FROM a '92 Toyoto Camry 4 cyl. with 180k to the Hemi powered 300C. That should be a very drastic change. The wait is going to kill me.

Well, I went FROM a 96 Crown Victoria. It's a 4 door, V8, rear wheel drive, automatic. You obviously see the big difference.... my new 300C will have independant rear suspension. The crown victoria has a solid rear axle, so when the left tire went up on the curb, the right tire would have rode along it's edge. But that didn't happen here, the tires stayed flat and even. This car has an indepentant rear suspension. (+10 points for who get's the reference).
That was my daily driver. If you count my "fun" car, I think I win for most different car:

I was driving an '87 Prelude.......followed by 2 Dodge coupes (Avenger and Stratus). Surprisingly, it was easy going FROM a coupe to the Magnum. I love the extra power and the extra space

I too have a 300C on order. We gave up the family car(94 Cadi Seville SLS) and I will be selling my 03 Landrover Discovery in the near future once I officially get my 300C  .
Avalanche 2500 stocker... sucked the gas down like you wouldn't believe. 12MPG on a really good day.

I was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz ML430. I just got the Magnum on Saturday and they are not even in the same league. The Dodge is much better! I had the Mercedes since new and the Magnum reinforces how much fun it is to have a fun fast car as opposed to a kind of fast tall SUV.

Well the last 6 weeks prior to getting my new RT I had to drive my Factory Five AC Cobra replica. Now let me tell you the cars are worlds apart. I don't have as much power, but then again I don't have to wear ear plugs so I don't go deaf. I still have the Cobra, and the RT is a MUCH better commuting car!

Haha, think I can claim the most radical change....
1985 Mercedes TurboDiesel Wagon 300TD.
Well, don't let that sound too stange, I love my Mercedes. This thing is built like a tank. And drives like one !!! Maintenence has pretty much been non-existent. Definitely the cheapest car I've ever driven, and its still going. Very good mileage, but ZERO power, I mean NONE !!
Come to think of it, they actually look similar! haha. A wagon for a wagon. The Magnum loses on space. I tried to get my bike in the back yesterday, and had to fold BOTH seats down to fit it. In the mercedes, I only had to fold one seat. It the low roof line of the magnum that makes it lose space.... but i ain't complaining !!
One of the reasons I picked the Magnum was the good amount of mercedes parts. Figured it couldn't hurt. And it seems to bear fruit. Such a nice ride and handleing combined, just like a mercedes...
But, the POWER is the difference. Possibly a 50:1 difference. I had grown used to the lack of power in the 300TD, so I'm like a new kid on the block now with a muscle car. Milage is definitely taking a hit cause of it too !!
Now, what to do with that old mercedes ????

From 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS and 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Brougham with mods to 2 300C's. I kept the 2000 Mercury Mountaineer 5L V8 with mods for my daughter.
I feel the difference in every aspect except on the power seats because both old ones has 8-way driver/pass power seats instead of 300C 6 way.

'71 Ford Country Sedan that I bought in '94 that I was using for a daily driver. The Magnum handles better and is quicker, but the Wagon has a certain class to it and feels like it has more power. The Magnum is better than a 4 door but in no ways measures up to a real wagon, too small inside. The Magun does get MUCH better gas milage....8.5 vs 16.5 back and forth to work.

I'm replacing 2 vechicles with my Magnum, a daily driver 95 VW Golf and my fun buggy a 1962 FORD Econoline. Not only am I replacing a 10 year old car and a 43 year old truck both were standard. I'm liking the auto though as I live in the city.
The truck is still in my posession but I have a buyer, as far as curb whiplash I used to get the looks FROM the truck as much as I do with the Magnum so I'm used to that.
Paul.
I went FROM a 2001 Ram Quad cab 4x4 OFF ROAD to the my Inferno RT. No regrets.

I had a 1998 VW Beetle TDI with some small performance mods.
It still got over 1000 km per tankful (45 MPG on average combined city/highway running B-20 biodiesel) and the car could run 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, made 140 HP and 190 lb-ft of torque. Pretty fine numbers for a diesel. But it was time to let it go - 300,000 km on that one...
The Magnum is a BIG BIG change. Especially on the pocketbook. This mileage (or lack thereof) is going to kill me.

For me, it will be somewhat of a big change. My current car (1968 Plymouth Valiant 4 door sedan) is about the same size as my new 300. The horsepower will be the same as my Valiant (190 horsepower) I have a 273 V8 in the Valiant and will be going to a 2.7 V6 with the 300. I will be gaining power windows, locks. cruise etc. vs NO AC and no power anything except for power steering with the '68 Valiant.

Its going to be a nice change for the better... My 1990 olds is falling apart, the dash is peeling off, the transmission is dying... after $1100 it still leaks oil... the 3.1V6 isnt that weak, but after i took the RT for a test drive, i hit the gas on my car and it wouldn't go!! Not to mention this car is huge, and has a ton of room, which im used to. My first car was an 84 Pontiac 6000(?!) and that had a ton of room.

A 1991 Nissan Sentra XE, with 62k miles and, for the last 4 years of it's life, a single headlight (a fender bender with a lifted pickup, with no damage to the pickup BTW, caused enough damage that the body shop wanted more to fix it than KBB said the car was worth, and since the accident was my fault, and I couldn't afford to have my insurance go up at the time....).
Needless to say, the first time I had the Magnum out after dark, I couldn't believe how bright everything was! <grin> Now I'm wondering how much brighter things could get with some aftermarket bulbs....

I sold my 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra for the RT.
The magnum is certainly not as quick but I like all the room inside the vehicle. I also have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 which I purchased new and it only has 34,000 miles on it.
Come spring, I will no doubt sell the Jeep and just have the magnum.

2001 3/4 Suburban--base model with vinyl bench seat and rubber floors--the last year they offered these beasts to the general public--you gotta buy TEN of them to get this model now (or so I've been told). I loved it--you could go camping and practically HOSE OUT the inside of the truck.
I bought the Magnum because I fell in love with the SRT-8 Magnum at the Auto SHOW last year. I said to myself "if they really build this f*ucker I'm buying one!" And I did.
Don't miss the Chevy AT ALL! Even when towing my little vintage Airstream!

I miss the days when pick up trucks were REALLY meant for utility, and not all the luxury. by dad had a mid 70's ford explorer pick-up eddie bauer edition. He put 300,000 miles on the damn thing! We worked the HECK out of that thing too, hauling wood, and general chores, he finnally sold it when he bought his silverado, and the ford is still running strong to this day even! I miss that truck.

Went FROM my 3rd Intrepid, a 2002 RT. Big difference in ride and road noise! The RT was pretty rough and had lots of road noise FROM the FWD. The Intrepid handled well as was pretty quick, but transition to the Magnum made driving really fun again. I just love to open it up and the feel of the smooth power!

Very nice cars you have though. The new Mustangs look amazing. I hated the old look.
Its seems like the big three have all got some sense smacked INTO them and they are all trying to make their lineup better. Chrsyler with the 300. Ford with the new Mustang and the 500. And then GM with Cadillac's big design change.

Old- 2001 Lincoln LS V-8 Sport (wife totalled it 4 weeks ago. I sure miss it.)
New-2005 Brilliant Black Hemi Magnum R/T (Not too bad for a Mopar and wife loves it)
Plusses- (1) More Power
(2) More Room
(3) Looks Cool
Minuses- (1) No memory seats
(2) No rain sensing wipers
(3) No Auto Headlamps (ordered parts to convert)
(4) VIRTUALLY NO PERFORMANCE AFTERMARKET SUPPORT YET
(5) Doesn't ride/handle as well
(6) Cheapo climate control setting knobs
So far, I like it pretty well. Jury's still out till I get some miles on it. I only have about 300 on it.

The Viper was nice, but just not a comfortable car in anyway. Just got tired of getting melted by the exhaust under the ass and out the side door. Tired of trying to jump over the hot exhaust door jambs and burning my legs in the summer with shorts on. Tired of worrying whp was touching it while I was in the restaurant eating. On and On and On. The Magnum is just a more practical car all the way around. I would by another Vette before I would by a Viper.

Djemcee, why didn't you just keep the Viper, in addition to the Magnum?? I do agree about that statement, as it isn't a daily driver sort of car, even in So Cal.
I would have a Viper, but my wife will not let me spend THAT much on a car that would only see use about 5 months a year (winter is FROM October to March/early April here!).

That's nothing I sold my '83 240D, 4cyl, 67hp non-turbo MB, which I do miss by the way. :( The W123 cars were the best ever built by MB, and with either of those two 4 or 5cyl diesels they would run for ever.
I also picked the Magnum because of the MB conection, along with room for big guy like myself. But be careful talking about the MB conection as there are some here who may go balistic on you with that kind of talk.
Anyway I really love the car and the way I'm not worn out when I take a road trip, like I was in the wife's Jetta. :D

I can honestly say that I really felt "the need for speed"!
I had a lot of fun in that car, especially when it first came out. Huge attention getter, much more so than my Magnum. (Still can't figure that one out).
Gonna miss the way I could zip in and out of small parking spaces but I certanly won't miss the crappy turning radius. I believe I am getting just about the same mileage on the freeway with my RT than I did with my PT. How cool is that! :thumbs_u:
