AWESOME looking car. You really got me thinking about mine.

However, there is a portion at the back that just doesnt fit in and would have cost next to nothing to fix at the time you sprayed the pillars.

I just had to PS it. What do you think. Was it hard to do the black paint etc.

Thanks to all of you folks. :thumbs_u:

The setting is a park next to the zoo here in Phoenix.

Those are real clouds...the only thing that I know how to do in PS is brightness/contrast and crop which I only did on a few of these picts. I had to since my forte is not photography.:)

And yep, Matrix, your PS looks perfect. Actually, I have been looking at what I can do with that bottom edge situation. I wasn't sure that up close a painted area below the rear side glass would work. I have an extra set of lower window mouldings to possible paint silver to straighten that line. Any suggestions are welcome because...all of the pillar and upper door frame is vinyl from a sign shop ($27 mod). I did this so I could experiment for this very reason.

Thanks for the poo compliment!

Brilliant!! I've been sat here all this time wondering how to work the vinyl to end at the back side window and look good and work it practically, when all it would take is to colour match the trims DERR!!!! I can really over complicate things sometimes

Matrix
05-09-2007, 04:38 AM
John, I quickly PS the trims to colour match teh body and the windows look more narrower and gives the car a much more chopped look about it.

I think I am going to go ahead and make these changes on my car. Definately paint the trims. get the Vinyl and get that all one blacked out look!! I've really taken to this!

Yep, I do think I like that better. Thanks!

Hemigagn, Jaak, and Token and I have had a few discussions on how to straighten those lines. There are some other cars on this forum with this mod or similiar. I think it is SoCalRT that has added more black that actually wraps all of the way around the car. It is also on a Silver Steel color. It looks very cool.

You caught me Jason...I was pulling the "lazy" card...LOL

Anyway,

I have AXIS GTR wheels that have a bolt pattern of 5 on 114.3mm (4.5"), which is a (very little) bit different campared to the LX's pattern of 5 on 115mm. They are 20's wiith 9" wide on front and 10.5" on rear. The rears have a 37mm offset (I think). They are designed for a late model G35 or 350Z. The fronts have a 27mm offset but I have to run a 5mm spacer. I have not had any problem with that bolt pattern. I just make sure that I torque them correctly.

BUT, to make them (315/35/20) fit inside of the fender lip I modified the inner wheelwell (chassis), the plastic inner liner, and had to shorten the sway bar link.

I cut out a hand sized area at the front inside of the wheel well. I went in about 1.5”. This area has ribs in the sheet metal structure. I overlapped and connected to each section while keeping a relatively stock looking appearance. I am confident with the integrity of the resulting structure. I used paint-locked steel sheeting to conteract any rust issues and also used a heavy zinc paint, both inside and outside of the structure along with an undercoating sealer. Then I had to cut, heat, shape, glue, and fasten the inner plastic fender well and support pieces. Since the wheels are so far inboard, the rear sway bar was actually inside the wheel and when the suspension was at full droop it rubbed on the inside of the rim. I shortened the bar links by about .5” which solved the problem and should not affect the sway bar characteristics by much.

A lot of work, but for me, I think it was absolutely worth it!:beerchug:

Now, if I get an SRT8, do I have to do this again?:racing:

Fab shots of your Magnum indeed. And since others have commented on the grill, I need to ask for more info regarding that grill. It's one of the nicest I've seen on a Magnum...

I fabbed and tig welded the grille from 3/16" x 1.5" aluminum flat stock. It is curved horizontally (obviously) but also a bit vertically. It doubles as structure for the opening since the "crosshairs" were removed. I had it powder coated semi-flat black. Also, a little note: the slats are far enough apart that I can easily clean between them without hurting my delicate little fingers. :)

The bumper bodywork was done by a place called ACE Bumpers in Indiana. I ended up using them because they did all of the structure in plastic and that is where I got the bumper from (through Ebay). As you can see, I had them put on a backing patch that was larger than the cutout hole. Also a lot of extra tabs were added per a drawing for placement.

I massaged a MSRT8 lower grill to fill my opened up lower grill, with tabs.

I hope this helps. :beerchug:

Easy now Mr. Fred!!!!!!

If it just has some minor imperfections and air bubbles, give it a week or so outside and a lot of them will disappear. It gets better with age (I have heard that some place!??). :beerchug:

Vinyl went on seamless, no bubbles, I made a couple of mis cuts and could see white in what should be a sea of black. Especially around the rear window, To be honest I'm sure I could do it again... but I don't really want to. This is why I make money... to burn it. LOL!

Come on down. It may take a bit getting used to in the summer, but for the fall, winter, and spring it is an out door paradise. Even in the summer there are some rivers and quite a few beautiful lakes to hang out at. Ya just don't want to linger on the sidewalk in the summer. And if you need some snow in the winter, just head north a bit.

OK, some picts in a bit more of a desert scene (with clouds of course)::mrgreen:

Hmmm... I know you're a bit colder than we are, but so far my painted trim is holding up really good (I did get one small crack in the flexible rubber part on installation). I don't know what kind of paint was used though.

Could you use the chrome ones, then sandblast them, and paint that?

but, I'm not sure how painting the plastic ones would be different from painting a bumper.
