This is an open invitation to all Arizona LX members to come on down to Tucson for drag racing Friday June 1st. The gates open at SIR at 4PM. The track stays open until at least 11PM. It's open Test & Tune night.
http://www.sirace.com/
Directions:
I-10 East to Houghton Road (Exit 275).
Turn right (south) on Houghton to Dawn Road.
Turn right on Dawn Road and go 1/2 mile to the entrance.
(There are drag racing signs posted along the way)
Racing is $20.
They have a new bar/grill. Good eats.
For you Phoenix area folks, you don't need shots or your passport to come to Tucson. You have no excuse.
There were far too many Mustangs and imports and far too few LX's the last time I went.

It is. With the heat and the altitude of the track this will just be a "for fun" drag and not a serious time trial.
There is just no way I can make this, sorry. I will be working on many around the house projects, and also prep for the car wash event.

I did the one run , and it sucked lol. I'm too afraid of messing up my only means of transportation I guess. No way I'm driving the wifes KIA. (Just kidding, I drive it all the time when we go out of town or to visit relatives in/around town.)
Yeah, I'll be at home in bed watching movies.
I'm a bit nervous , but I guess that's normal. I mean , they're removing hardware so it shouldnt be TOO bad .... right ? Only crap thing is that the medical facility is in Scottsdale (94th and Shea) and I live in Avondale. Gonna be a long drive ... good thing I'll have drugs for the ride back home !!
Gotta remember to ask for the hardware back too. After all I did pay for it.

Guys - I thought I saw a sign that said I-10 would be closed in Tucson from 9pm until 1am Friday night. I tried to confirm this with the I-10 improvement project website but I didn't see anything.
If I-10 is closed it would be between Prince Road and 29th. They would divert traffic to the frontage roads. If this is the case I can lead you to Ruthrauff through town and get you back on to I-10 there. Ruthrauff is past Prince Road. Or even better I might lead you up to River Road and take it to I-10. River is pretty nice.

I'm going to be at Townsends Performance around 3pm or so. They are at 244 West Grant Road (just east of Oracle on the North side of the road). If anyone from PHX or TUC wants to meet there and refill the nitrous bottles or just hang and caravan down to the track, I'll see you there. I'll probably head to the track around 4pm unless we get a good sized crowd that wants to hang at Townsends for awhile. Post up, let me know!!

Also, any news on the road closures?

Carl made a few passes, said he wasnt hard into it yet because it's not broke in yet.
It was a good time, my wife and son had fun also. I think we were the only ones who didn't "run" our car.
Got to meet some good people.

I made 1 run and babied it most of the way down. I got a 12.96 with a .169 reaction, and a 1.997 60'. I don't have a jacket, so the tech guys told me if I broke 14, I was through. I let off about 10 feet before crossing, thinking I might sneak in just over 14. I left a lot of power on the table. Can't wait to really see what she can do.

Lots of fun. Sorry some of you missed out. My best time was a 16.406. That sucked but I didn't care. We all parked near a bunch of old skool Mopars. They were really nice folks. We showed each other our cars.
It cooled off pretty well at night. I think it was 79 when we left.
4 of us went to Hooters. The waitress thought she had a fast car. Turned out she was bragging about a Mustang GT. We tried to get pics with the waitresses in front of our cars but they never showed. We left.
Carl's run was amazing. He beat a turbo wagon thing that was popping all down the track. They driver came over after the race to see what monster had killed him.

Had a blast...! My times were about what I expected - around a full second slower than my last outing at Speedworld, six weeks ago or so...
If you apply that same reduction to Carl's run, even without counting what he held back........ good gravy, that car is going to scream.
Had fun going heads up with Dan (XxBlkHemiChargerxX) and Troy (T-Rex) - the closest race I had was with Dan, the second of three runs we did - I thought he was ahead the whole race (after I had won the first run by .2 or so) - and I was hollering at my car "C'mon! C'mon!" when I realized my window was down...
Nice to meet you Dennis and Angelo - Brian, and Jack, sorry you didn't make it this time.
Thanks fellas for a great time!

I'll post a video of Carl's 426 running down the track next to snap, crackle, pop, Speedricer later tonight - - - - Stay tuned.. Carl thought his engine blew up the first time the ricer popped!! It was pretty funny but here's some serious numbers:
Temp: 84*, Humidity: 23%, Elevation: 3075 ft, Baro Pressure: 28.30.
Carl's uncorrected numbers: 12.962 @ 106.26
'
'
'
'
'
'
Carl's corrected numbers: 11.59 @ 117.5
:thumbs_u:  :Na_Na_Na_Na: :racing: :beerchug: :chickdance:
Driving back up from Tucson, Carl pulls up next to me, I gas it and about the time my door passes his front bumper, he lays into it, all I hear is his car over my own exhaust and in about a second and a half, I'm seeing his tail lights and he's pulling away fast. That 426 is all business.
On a personal note, everyone we met down in Tucson was great. I especially enjoyed the conversation with Ratfink and his family. Found out Ratfink is former Airborne Infantry and did a stint over in Iraq during Desert Storm. Mister Ratfink, I truly appreciate your service and you have a wonderful family. Looking forward to the next time we have the opportunity to get together!!
