View Full Version : StarScan Updates at Beach Burger - Charity Fundraising Idea
Update 5/6 - see results here - http://www.lxforums.com/board/showpost.php?p=863959&postcount=44
I plan on bringing my StarScan next Friday (5/4) to continue helping out whoever needs flash updates. I just did a software update and have all the current flash files.
But....there's a catch....
I had told Tom that I think SoCalLX should try to periodically do some events that might help local charities. To help kick-start this I would like to ask for donations for those who need flash updates. I'm thinking anything from $5 to $20 would be fair. My chosen local charity for the first fundraiser is Orangewood Childrens Home. To sweeten the pot, I'll match 50% of all funds raised, up to $200.
All previous updates that I have performed at Beach Burger were not done with this fundraising in mind, so there is absolutely no obligation for you to donate. However, should you feel inclined....I will gladly accept and add you to the donator list.

great idea! Im in, but im a newbie to the flash and B&G thing... do I need anything on my car or can you take care of it all? PS do these work on 3.5s and what does it do?This has nothing to do with the "B&G thing". Since you are asking about a 3.5, I'll assume you don't have a B&G. If you did, you don't want me flashing it as it would overwrite the programming.
Yes, 3.5's can usually benefit from the updates too. The newest PCM/TCM updates tend to give better shifting - even for the V6'ers.

I hope your not insinuating that JonW or the club's gesture to do something good in our community is dis-honest in some way.

Definitely a Joke!
Thought some humor as to how money/charities/taxes all somehow work out was appropriate here.
Its a Unique Idea that has the ability to help people in need! Hard to see *any* downside to it.

The scary part, I've got no clue what can and can not be "updated" via starscan :)
I do know I may need my OCS recalibrated. Other than that, things seems to be doing what they're supposed to do. Can you starscan in a coffeemaker? :)

If we plan on having our cars flashed, I'm sure we need to return them to stock if we have superchips. At least I'm returning our car to stock before a flash.

I have no idea what flashes if any would benefit my situation. Got a stock motor 5.7 rwd.
Also, do you recommend removing the 3825 FP and return car to stock before the update?
and to sound dumb, what is the AK Trans flash?
Thanks

There may be factory updates
Yes return to stock
AK trans flash supposedly fixes the 3825 FP trans auto kick? The setting that won't upshift until 3200 even if you paddle up. Something like that. I read somewhere that the flash totally changes the way SC trans settings work, not sure but would like to try. I constantly forget to upshift if in paddle mode if when just cruising around all the sudden I gotta little ricer who want to race, I nail it and hit the rev limiter. Hopefully I can set it so when in paddle mode and you nail it, it will upshift on its own if you forget to.

AK is the latest revision for most vehicles (some early vehicles have a different part number, thus AK is not the latest software release).
Yes, remove any FlashPaq tune prior to getting an update. Your FP may also then require a new download before it can be used again with your car.
I am only providing the latest factory software updates - nothing more. You are responsible for knowing if you want or need these updates.

Jon is great at flashing! Wish I could be at this M & G with the rest of you. In honor of the selected charity, I would also like to make a donation and consider it my thanks for the flash Jon did on my C at the Spring Festival. Heck, I don’t even remember what he flashed… Thanks also to Fast56k for offering assistance.

I can't say without hooking the car up to the StarScan and comparing the versions of your modules against what is available. If they did the TCM update, they should have also done the latest PCM update with it as well. If not, you should have that done.

I'll be doing a follow up post in just a bit to summarize what we've raised. I am very happy with the results.
In addition to the fabulous turnout we had for the first official SoCalLX Club meeting, we also had a great response to our fundraising effort.
Donations collected at Beach Burger were $375. As promised, I will also be matching 50% on the first $200, so that brings us to $475 total!! (as of 5/4)
This is huge for our first effort!
A huge THANK YOU to all those members who took part in this fundraiser:

Thanks Jon for the updates. Everything is looking good so far. Only funny thing that happened, was that for some reason my car thought it had 27" dia. tires. On my way home from the meet (40 Miles) my EVIC mpg average went from 16.8 to 20.8. Saturday I used my superchips flashpaq to change it to the proper 28.5", and now my average is returning to normal. If only it was true. Thanks again and I'm sending beans your way.

Most of the cars that I updated DO NOT have the superchips. The AK TCM flash is worthwhile to get for the better shifting response. I also do the latest PCM updates with it as well.
Just let me know if you want me to dew your car!

He will have his Laptopp with him and if all goes well he will be doing flashes again for a small donation for our current charity.
Yes, I do plan on being there. However, I just looked up how far it is on Mapquest and figured out it is just over 2 hours away. Hopefully I'll be back by a decent time.

2007 Donation Status Update
OK, not much mention of this fundraiser for a while, so I thought I would come back to this thread to update everyone who helped with this.
Based on the vehicles flashed and the donations collected this year, I was able to forward a contribution to the Orangewood Childrens Foundation for $1000!!!
Below is a letter of appreciation from Orangewood. This level of donation would not have been made possible without the help of all the club members who participated in this fundraiser. As evidenced by the flashing performed last Friday at Beach Burger, the success of this fundraiser will continue again for 2008!
