"New Chrysler 300 Sedan Triples Sales of Its Predecessor in First Full Month of Availability
The Chrysler brand posted strong sales in April of 51,491 units, a 28 percent increase over April 2003 when 40,323 units were sold. The Chrysler 300 sedan posted sales of 9,543 units during its first full month of availability, and continues to generate excitement among customers as units continue to arrive at dealerships."

Chrysler 300 triples sales of its predecessor---But you have to remember that the 300 is replacing the Concorde, the LHS, and the 300M and also will draw previous Intrepid buyers. Dodge doesn't have a true replacement for the Intrepid. A better comparison would be first month sales of the 300M compared to first month sales of the 300C.

Was the 300M, LHS and Concorde all introduced at the same time? The same month?

In this month's Motor Trend there is a breakdown as of print fo near-luxury market shares (from October 2003 to Feburary 2004). The new 300 was just coming online and was at the bottom with 912 sales. The top three were BMW 3 series (with 40,955), Lexus ES (with 29,109), and Acura TL (with 28,802). If the 300 sales are now that strong I am sure by the end of the year it will pass at least the Acura and Lexus. Basically if the 300 is selling 10,000 in one moth that puts it top ten in a list of cars that have been selling for 5 months! At that pace it will beat even the BMW 3 series.

Those are cars shipped to the dealers not sold to customers. Chrysler counts a sale when it is shipped to the dealer. Any new car/truck looks good as dealer stock is filled. It will take a few months to see what the real sales numbers are. This happened with the Durango. Sales looked great at first now the lots are full and sales look bad and incivates are on the rise. 300 incentives will be here soon, save your cash and wait for a deal.
