"They are very bold departures FROM conventional automotive design. They are very static-looking; they have a very large, blunt nose; and in many ways are reminiscent of American cars of the 50's. I think it's a very risky design direction. I'm not sure I would have dared do that. It could be that it's going to be hugely successful - in which case I will say, 'I wish I'd thought of that.' "

You bet you're going to be wishing you though of it! Especially after the GTO! 8)

1.) I love the new GTO. Super clean and the LS1 rules.
2.) Speaking of bold, who approved the new Silverados?

The Magnum and 300 are awesome looking machines.
Personally, I am a wagon guy, so I love the Magnum. :)

I think the performance side of the new GTO is great. But the styling? Looks like a big Cavalier to me. For the price hold out for the new Corvette and pay a little more. Or just get a Magnum/300C. To each his own though.

Lutz should know a winner when he sees one. I have a feeling, he is already asking himself "why didnt I think of that" every time he looks at the new LX's. :D

his pet project the Solstice looks like crap in my mind, but the GTO is a nice conservative looking vehicle

You do have to admit, Lutz has made a positive impact on GM, and that is not easy to do. GM is a big, fat old dinorsaur of a company, not prone to chaning direction or reacting quickly at all. Since Lutz took over, things have gotten better. You can tell which new models he had a chance to influence (the GTO, Solstice, Buick LaCrosse) and which ones he did not (Chevy trucks, Cadillac CTS) because the ones he has influenced no longer look like "angry kitchen appliances"! :D

Of all the American car makers, I think that GM is the farthest behind in terms of design. Not to say they don't have any nice looking cars. But besides a few high performance models, most of their cars look bad. Buick? Who even considers these anymore?

The GTO might be more interesting if it was truly new. All GM did was reskin the Holden Monaro.

I like the GTO and I don't like it at the same time. I think it will perform well and probably drive fantastic. I am disgusted though that they couldn't make the effort to develop a new car FROM the ground up. Maybe make it another possible Corvette derivative similar what they've done at Cadillac. Something sexy and powerful, but built FROM the ground up. I think the 300C kicks it's butt all over in comparison.

I can't wait for a possible SRT-8 model. Any news on that?

I like the GTO. I was behind one the other day and the dude floored it. Man that thing took off like a rocket!

If you were behind one in your 300 or Magnum with the HEMI, see if he disappears FROM view as you floor yours.

The GTO looks great on paper and it has a quality interior, but don't you think it resembles a Pontiac Sunfire? I used to own a red Sunfire and this is a dead ringer (turned me off American cars until now).

I walked INTO a Pontiac dealer in San Francisco two weeks ago and they had the GTO behind a velvet rope with a $5k over MSRP markup. The salesguy admitted they weren't selling well (they only had a few), which didn't surprise me when it was listed at over $30k.

I also like the CTS and bold styling, which is probably why I'm buying a Magnum (and bought a Scion Xb). I'll admit that most of my friends think I'm in love with "ugly" cars.

Get some pics of your xB up! For some odd reason those cars fascinate me. ;)

I have a friend that has a blue 2004 GTO. Nice car all in all. FROM what I hear there not doing so well. There is something like 175 days supply and GM is still not giving any kind of incentives on the car. My mother is a retired GM employee and I work in the automotice sector but I can't get a penny off the sticker price! Last I heard GM was considering taking the twin hood scope off the 2005 GTO and adding in to 2004 still in inventory in hopes of selling the car!!!! Oh, that will work......................NOT!

Beautiful interior. Great performance. The looks of a Sunfire.

if not for the recent developments with the LX platform, i would say Cadillac has done a remarkable and brilliant job at re-creating itself...

they are creating great cars again...bold, daring and they perform...the CTS-V is awsome...the whole cts platform is great

if it came in automatic i would have bought it before the magnum came out...

if you have not driven the cts-v, then give yourself a real treat...it pulls and handles like a dream...it is $50k, so it should, but it will blow doors on any LX in speed and handling...its amazing how tight the handling is...definately goin after the bimmers...

but i love my RT... uniquely American....reminds me of a harley or somethin g...i can't remember the last car i just kept wanting to personalize and tweak like this car....

my 70 super bee was the last one like this ...for me...

I guess the GTO design is not cluttered up enough for real Pontiac guys to like it. Personally I think it is pretty sharp in a conservative way. Drove one before getting the Magnum and it was pretty sweet. By far the best stock startup exhaust note I have ever heard. Sounded funny on the road at low revs though.

I love the styling of the LX cars. I was very excited about the new GTO after they announced it, but after pontiac screwed up the styling and lef the engine wanting in the HP department, I bought an '03 Cobra instead. As a matter of fact, I was SO enthused about the GTO at one time that I started up www.ls1gto.com, but then sold the site when I saw the performance figures on the car.
