View Full Version : Key fob battery problem???
Sorry if this has been discussed. I have a Dec 2004 build and the battery just died in the key. The dash displayed "RKE battery low" so I attempted to replace the battery. I removed the screw and then removed the back cover of the key. When the cover came off two of the three solder points of the battery retaining clip broke and made it impossible to replace the battery and back cover. I went to the dealer and they were aware of this issue and replaced my key under warranty.

a few members have re-soldered their own. not too difficult. a cheap alternative when warranty runs out.

Same here, I had both of mine replaced. At 35,999 miles Im going to see if the same thing happens.

I just went in this morning and they said that because I opened it up that it was no longer under warranty. The next time I go in for service I'll get it all straigtened out, I hope.

That is ironic. If you took it in for them to do, they'd tell you its not a warranty item and throw it right back at you. You just can't win...

So Drew... They're telling you that your RKE battery is covered under the 7/70,000 warranty and since you were trying to mod it by putting in a higher power battery you voided your warranty.....j/k

Crap - I just reflowed the battery clip joints on one of our fobs - I didn't even consider that there may have been a warranty replacement possibilty...
