So i bought a 06 inferno red mag sxt about 3 weeks ago, so far ive been really happy with my purchase and my experience with the dealership. But something has come up and im not so sure about how i feel about it.

Last weekend i removed all the badges and trim. And i was very happy with the result except for I realized that the top half of the font passenger door has been repainted. And very poorly too, they didnt take off the door bumper so there is a visible line where the clear ends. The paint color doesnt match either its too dull, paint mixture might hve been off a bit or not enough clear. Either way the door has to be repainted.

So i brang her into the dealer and they agreed it has to be repainted. Now heres where my problem lies, they told me theres two options: 1 they get there shop to paint and blend door and fender most likely and well split the cost. 2nd is i get a buddy of mine to paint the door and theyll cut me a cheque(i used to be in the autobody trade so i know some people.)

Now i was planning on painting a couple things myself, the spoiler and the inside of the headlight's if i could manage to open them up. So getting the door painted isnt a big deal, but do u guys think its fair that i should have to pay?

Was it my fault that i didnt spot this before i bought the car(i cant believe i didnt) Or should the dealership be held responsible?

as crappy as you feel about it, when it comes to used cars, buyer beware. he could have just said "that's what you bought, that's what you got".

I would say the dealer should be responsible only if new, then definitely.......if used, then maybe he didn't know about the repainting. Either way it still sucks your ride is 'scarred'. Hope it works out for you.

Well considering that, I think if they want to cut you a check to have a buddy do the work then go for it. Specially if you were going to do some painting anyway.

yea - Cut your losses (if any) and take the check. Go ahead and run a car fax to make sure nothing is going to hit you in the face future wise and paint that sucker to make it your own. Used car, dealer; could have said tough luck and hit the road.

Hang in there,

I can understand your frustration. But, unless you got some sort of guarantee, other than the "sold as is" paperwork, I think you'd be best to take the check and call it good.

Good luck on the paint job. Be sure and post some pictures!

Yup take the check! Becuase they could say its your fault for removing the side modlings and not cut you a check.
