I picked up my 05 300 last sunday and today i go to use the heat vents which i havent touched even when iwas looking at the car i never touched them, and there all jacked up, btw these are the ones on either side of the clock in the bezel on top. It looks like they melted from the back. Now i dont know if they were on fire or something or if the heat from the blower motor killed them or what but its lame and the dealer better fix it this week.

yea im trying to keep my holiday spirit up, but come tuesday its all goin down, plus the cleaner they used to detail it etched the plastic on the clock, so as of now it looks like not only are they going to replace either the vents clock (mabey bezel not sure if its all attached) and ALSO the passenger side vent is busted and it looks like it has some hack ass tape on it to fix it so they need to change all that out ASAP.

i dont know if it was eaten up with a cleaning product or if it was cooked but i did buy an additional 4 year bumper to bumper warranty so im assuming this would fall under faulty heating equipment.

That looks like a chemical problem instead of a heat issue. Someone "cleaned" that car with abusive chemicals and a very heavy hand.

I've seen straight rubbing alcohol do this kind of damage to plastic components. Friend of mine detailed his Galant and used rubbing alcohol on the vents and dash surfaces and had to have the vents replaced and ended up sanding the whole dash down and painting it.
I can't confirm this is what happened to yours, but a possibility...

somone sprayed some harmful hooha on yer shiznit, man.
You get it detailed at some drive through car wash with an expensive option? Often, their citrus-based sprays tear stuff up. Doesnt rilly smell that great either. If the car wash did this, they are liable. The plasic is now textured. If the stealership did it, they are but this reeks of "high end" car wash to me.

i just bought the car on sunday the 18th or dec. I never noticed it because they were open and it was nearly 60 so i didnt have to check the heat. I dont know what the previous owner did to it but i do know that 3 of the 4 vents dont work correctly and the clock looks like **** and i know that replacing these parts is pricey. Im gonna call them first and be like wtf these are all broken and hack job fixed, and if they dont want to fix it like that then mabey they will cover it under the bumper to bumper warranty as a faulty heating issue.

That doesn't look like any heat issue I've ever seen.
Somebody, at sometime put a nasty chemical on those plasitc pieces.
I wish you the best of luck getting it fixed. I know I'd be all lit up if I saw that in my car!

It looks like at one time that dash had a snake skin cover on it. I wonder if the dealership tried to take it off and they used harsher chemicals than needed to get it off. Then they replaced it with that cover is on it now. Get them to replace it for you.

i dont know what you mean by the snakeskin cover but i spoke with the dealership today and there going to fix it because the car is still within the first 30 days. $300-$400 now is well worth it considering its a matter of having a return customer or not.

I have to agree with reppr, it looks like somebody had some kind of plastic textured skin adhered to the vent flaps (referring to that stuff to the right of the vent knob in picture 2), and the dealer probably was trying to get it off and used some nasty **** which damaged the vent plastic.
Honestly, it makes me wonder what other damage there might be underneath your dash panels. If that chemical got down into the cracks or the dealer just slapped new panels on over whatever screwup they did, it could be a lot nastier underneath.
I'm not trying to make you feel worse, I'm just saying, make sure the vents aren't the only part of the car subjected to whatever chemical they started splashing around with. It may not even make any difference as long as the dash panels are in place, but who knows.

Looks like someone had a different dash kit on it and removed it. Not sure what they used to get the glue or adhesive off but they used too much and didn't get it all cleaned off. Maybe a petroleum based cleaner in a spray bottle not a rag? Hope they get it taken care of. I assume you bought it used? If so, find out who owned it and check with them on it's history. If it's new, make the dealer replace the whole dash. Good luck.
